D A R K F O R C E S -- CD-Rom RiP Installation Instructions
==============================================================================
An independent release brought to you first by Chowdery.
==============================================================================
(1) Each of these zip files contains and corresponds to a DARK.001
DARK.002
DARK.xxx
up until you get the the very last zip containing DARK.021
After unzipping all the files, delete *.ZIP to save yourself some hard
drive space.
(2) You need to unzip each of the DARKxxx.ZIP files to your work hard drive.
(3) Use the CARVE.EXE file included on DARKF001.ZIP and DARKF021.ZIP to join
all the files. To do this you will type: CARVE /J DARK.ZIP
(A) All the unzipped files (ie. Dark.001 up to Dark.021) need to be
located in the same place when you run CARVE.EXE
(B) 'CARVE /J DARK.ZIP' will join each of the DARK.xxx files into a
single 31 meg file called DARK.ZIP on the same drive.
(C) For this reason you need to make sure you keep 31+ meg available on
this drive before running CARVE.EXE !!! (obviously)
(4) Once you have joined all the files using the carve.exe program, you are
almost ready to play. Delete the DARK.xxx files to save space and simply
"PKUNZIP -D DARK.ZIP" to the hard drive and dir where you want the game
installed ...
(5) After unzipping the DARK FORCES [PKUNZIP -D], you can setup your sound
card(s).
(A) Run INSTALL.EXE [make sure JEDI.CFG and IMUSE.* are in the same dir
as the install program].
(B) After creating/modifying/saving your configuration, copy the new
JEDI.CFG file into the <drive>:\\DARK directory and run DARK.EXE to
play!
(6) This is a CD-Rom RiP and is fully working!! I played it for about 2 hours
before I zipped it up. I have followed the process above and it works
beautifully... This is actually one of those games worth buying!!!
Note: The game will check for the CD-Rom drive, but by using SUBST you can
fool the game into thinking there is one available. It's sort of a pain
in the ass, so hopefully SOMEONE WILL CRACK it soon!!! <hint, hint)
(7) The CD-Rom also includes a demo for Dark Forces and Full Throttle. The
latter looks bloody amazing -- probably another must-buy. You can pick
the demos up for free at Software Etc, but I didn't include it here since
the Full Throttle demo was bigger than the whole Dark Forces game! Enjoy.
