Unprotect for Rack'em BE SURE TO BACKUP YOUR PROGRAM DISK BEFORE STARTING AND USE THE BACK UP FOR THE UNPROTECT. Modify only the backup copy!!! First you should rename the file or files POOL.EXE TO POOL Ex. C>rename pool.exe pool Next Load program into debug... Ex. C>debug pool Then Follow the sample debug session: -rcs : get segment address CS XXXX XXXX=XXXX+1000H : add 1000H to segment address (These numbers are in hex. If you are unfamiliar with the adding of hex numbers don't attempt this patch) -s XXXX:0000 ffff 06 56 57 9a : Search for protection pattern XXXX:YYYY : The search will return one address. If more than one is returned this unprotect may not work. ZZZZ=YYYY+0003 : Add 3 to the address found (These numbers are in hex. If you are unfamiliar with the adding of hex numbers don't attempt this patch) -e XXXX:ZZZZ eb 0c 90 90 90 : Edit the contents of the computed address Now write the new pool game back to the disk: -w <Enter> Writing XXXX bytes Then Quit Debug: -q <Enter> Now it is time to rename pool back to pool.exe C>ren pool pool.exe Now try to run the new (Hopefully) unprotected version of Rack'em C>pool -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unprotect Brought to you courtesy of Super Dave Super Dave can be reached at: The Download Depot BBS (803) 269-7899 Greenville, SC
