BSAA BUST INFO from the Age Green Guide 2/12/93 Typed in by Free Rider The Business Software Association of Australia is stepping up its war on software piracy by targeting electronic bulletin boards. Some boards are alledged to have been involved in the distribution of illegally copied software. In Sydney last week, on the application of association members Microsoft, Autodesk, lotus and Wordperfect, the Federal Court granted a permenant order restraining Gareth Morgan, operator of the Melbourne based Terminal Velocity bulletin board, from illegally copying or distributing the companies' software. Morgan agreed to pay substantial damages and to have computer equipment confiscated. The amount of damages has not been disclosed. The order followed an association raid on Morgan's premises. Another case is proceeding against Jarrad Webb, who is alleged to be operator of the "Cove" bulletin board in Adelaide. That case is adjourned until 3 december. The association claims that its member companies, which include most of the well known software distributors, lose more than $300 million a year to Australian software piarates. Well there you go ppl some facts at last. However there are are few mistruths in there. The raid was just a few BSAA goons rolling up to the house with a warrant. They had to wait at the door whilst Jetstream phoned his lawyer and the Feds almost certainly wern't involved. As for $300 million lost well thats total bullshit as we all know. Do they really think everyone with a pirated copy of their software would actually buy them ? No they can't really be that stupid can they ? I haveabout 1/2 $million worth of pirated software and i don't think i would have purchased any of it if i had to pay for it. Anyway all pirates out there keep ripping off these overcharging behemoths and helping the Australian economy by keeping Australian $ in the country and not the old USA. And remember all sysops to only let users you know personally or trusted traders onto your boards. If you accept money in exchange for access or software then you are simply asking to be busted. Anyway happy pirating. regards Free Rider
