Unprotect for "My ABC's" by Paperback Software 11 May, 1986 This short debug session will unprotect My ABC's so that it may be be freely backed up. The program is a cute alphabet and counting tutor for pre-schoolers and is very reasonably priced at $10.00. I highly rec- ommend its purchase. However the turkeys copy protected it with non-stan- dard formatting and disk checking. Unfortunately that meant I couldn't use it for my kids, as my drive A isn't a 5.25 inch drive. Furthermore, if there was ever a disk that was going to be at high risk for damage, it's the one you give a pre-schooler. Out of necessity, then, (not cheapness!) this unprotect was born. Make a diskcopy copy of the ABC's disk and put away the original. Copy Debug.com onto the non-functioning copy diskette. Now enter: A> REN ABC.EXE ABC.ZAP A> DEBUG ABC.ZAP -E 03AF <RET> XXXX:03AF 75.90 <SP> XXXX:03B0 03.90 <RET> -W <RET> Writing A2CD bytes -Q <RET> A>REN ABC.ZAP ABC.EXE <RET> NOTES: 1. <RET> = PRESS THE RETURN KEY ONCE. 2. <SP> = PRESS THE SPACE BAR ONCE. 3. THE DEBUG PROMPT IS THE "-". 4. DEBUG WILL DISPLAY THE 75 AND THE 03, YOU ENTER THE 90'S. 5. IF DEBUG DOESN'T DISPLAY THE 75 AND 03, THIS PROBABLY WON'T WORK. 6. XXXX is a 4 digit hex number which varies from computer to computer. Ignore these values. When you are through with the above, you have a copiable, func- tioning version of ABC.EXE. Backups may now be made with the copy *.* command. For the technically inclined: What you are doing is entering 2 NOP's which overwrite a condi- tional jump to an exit routine. This means that when the INT 13 returns from the disk check with the news that the disk is a copy, the program ignores it and continues. If this is of any use to you or if you have comments/criticism, the author of this unprotect may be reached via TELSTAR BBS, San Antonio TX (512) 822-8882. Leave a message to ALL and mention ABC.UNP. Again, I recommend purchasing the program if at all possible, as it is worth the very reasonable price requested. →Zc║┤█8┌•♥—╠ºž╙o"¬{╞╜↔≈s•x•UΓ/™½m▬š‘‰úií≈6d╝eεo‼◄ú∟→Θ┌Z↔╔▓‼⌡\‡┴÷▓╔F†…╨…├RYúIy…‘τ∟,l
