UPDATED SEPTEMBER 6, 1994 How the demos were rated: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The "subjective" ratings consist of three scores on a 0-10 scale and an overall score which is a combination of the three scores. Keep in mind that this (the ratings) is "ONE" persons opinion of the demos AND, many demos were reviewed previous to other GREAT demos thus the reason for some deviation in the scores given. By all means don't take any bad ratings of your demos personally. Many people (5+) have helped review demos within this list. GRAPHICS deals with fonts, drawings, pictures, and anything graphic oriented. MUSIC/SOUND deals with what is heard. Most demos were judged using the SB(pro) or GUS (so you'll probably need both of them). CODING deals with the complexity of what is seen and not internally. SIZE corresponds to the uncompressed size. This may differ slightly. DATE is the latest day I noticed on the main demo files. There are 400+ demos in this list. Problems? Contact [email protected] +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | 24H_BRK (24H Break) | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Digitize Design Group | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 96,213 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | Jule 31, 1993 | | Overall | 6.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Fast circle-effect, sine scroller (coded in interesting way) - not a great job for asm-intro-compo (of course some music) btw: at the end they are talking about many bugs: here is one: press (& hold) left shift during sine-scroller. Letters D and G will be moved 'a little' ;-) +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | 2PHOBIA (Second Phobia) | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Noice | | Music/Sound | 8 | | Size | 228,637 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | January 3, 1994 | | Overall | 7.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Really nice intro with some bitplane-mapping (& rotating), vectors, vector-dots, etc. There is such a bug, it supports GUS only at 220 (for other base-ports un-pklite this program and change 0x220 (the only one) in code to your base address). +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | 2NDREAL (Second Reality) | | Graphics | 10 | | Group | Future Crew | | Music/Sound | 10 | | Size | 2,496,721 | | Coding | 10 | | Date | October 9, 1993 | | Overall | 10.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Probably THE BEST demo I've ever seen - 2nd Reality - Assembly'93 winner. Btw: at the moment this is the only demo in the world with Overall: 10 - rating! Why? Download it! Excelent music for this track demo (??? only muzax is like in track demo :-(( not gfx) was composed by Purple Motion & Skaven - really cool.. There are many old effects but with good design - so whole demo looks compact and really cool.. But some of them are not-the-best - comparing bitplane rotation of head in 2nd Reality and bitplane not_only_rotation of logo in Optic Nerve (abilities, resolution). +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | 2NDTRO | | Graphics | 1 | | Group | DANTE | | Music/Sound | 6 <DMP> | | Size | 370,892 | | Coding | 3 | | Date | May 5, 1994 | | Overall | 3.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ I don't know if pictures inside can be called graphics. Looks ... Almost pallete effects, and one part with bitplane rotating. For sound, external DMP is required ;) so may be it supports your device :) +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | 30_DEMO | | Graphics | 4 | | Group | Noice | | Music/Sound | - | | Size | 424,616 | | Coding | 4 | | Date | May 30, 1993 | | Overall | 4.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Demo contains rotating cube (so obvious), low-zoom plasma (so good, because you cannot see plasma in any other demo this way - always there is a high zoom (because looks better ;-), then a dot-ball (also obvious), and end-scroller (thats all???? yes....) +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | 8192 (8K) | | Graphics | 2 | | Group | The Svilit Two | | Music/Sound | 3 | | Size | 8,504 | | Coding | 2 | | Date | December 27, 1993 | | Overall | 2.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Ansi - AdLib - techno party. Just swapping some ansi-screens with FM muzax. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | AA-INTRO | | Graphics | 2 | | Group | Aardwark | | Music/Sound | 1 | | Size | 188,650 | | Coding | 2 | | Date | June, 1993 | | Overall | 1.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ First intro by Aardwark, short and not-so-impressive (except the screen flash during the scroller on my computer). Contains a bouncing screen in the begining and full-screen scroller (that doesn't look good on my machine). Plays a short looped Queen's VOC via Sound Blaster. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ACEDEMO | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Ace | | Music/Sound | 5 | | Size | 512,869 | | Coding | 5 | | Date | December 2, 1992 | | Overall | 5.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This did not work the first time for me because I had CPAV running (as I always do) in the background. Once I disable it the demo worked fine. What we have here is a graphic desktop (light, pen, cup, ACE) rotating around going in and out. The graphic is nicely drawn but there is nothing more to this demo. The sound sample is a good choice but repeative. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ACIDWARP | | Graphics | - | | Group | Noah Spurrier [Person] | | Music/Sound | - | | Size | 65,136 | | Coding | 3 | | Date | October 12, 1993 | | Overall | 3.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ A color-demo completely based on palette-modifications, including interferenced of colors and so. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ACME | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Acme | | Music/Sound | 5 | | Size | 133,912 | | Coding | 4 | | Date | Jule 18, 1993 | | Overall | 5.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ The first intro by Acme - they are looking for mussician. There is such a starfiled in 3 planes & typer, and some plasma... +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ACME-BSD (Blue Steel) | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Acme | | Music/Sound | 7 (GUS) | | Size | 266,585 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | April 15, 1994 | | Overall | 7.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Nothing really new in this demo. It has a morphing vector ball part, very brief polygon section (polygon is small), a nice "psycadelic" spiral section. An interesting thing about this one is that when you expect this demo to end it doesn't. ;-) GUS music supported only in this one. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ACME-DOA (Dead on arrival) | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Acme | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 910,795 | | Coding | 9 | | Date | Jule 30, 1994 | | Overall | 7.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ In the beginning there are nice hi-res titles. After those cute vectors with shadows followed by ground shaded vectors, there is vector world and lots of other stuff... +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ACME-MMI | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Acme | | Music/Sound | 7 GUS | | Size | 106,989 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | May 8, 1994 | | Overall | 7.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Mental masturbation intro - intro with vectors, vector-dots, and - thats all in 2 minutes ;) +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ACME-SNS | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | Acme | | Music/Sound | ? GUS? | | Size | 54,877 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | May 23, 1994 | | Overall | 5.5 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Short 'n sweet intro - actually runs in 16 colors - color waves and no sound(?) because player seems to be inplemented(!) +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ACT-ONE | | Graphics | 4 | | Group | The Cultural Revolution | | Music/Sound | 5 | | Size | 598,000 | | Coding | 3 | | Date | January 17, 1993 | | Overall | 4.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ If the year were 1989 I would probably be impressed with this demo, however the year is 1993 and the standards are higher. Many line coloring and screen clearing effects, color cycling, and background changing takes place in this demo. Some fractal graphics and a couple TCR graphic pictures are also thrown in. Sadly enough, this demo can not be "escaped" out of and ends with a long (300 baud) text written message which should have been left out. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ACTIVITY (Radioactivity) | | Graphics | 4 | | Group | ICSPC | | Music/Sound | 5 | | Size | 909,427 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | April 15, 1993 | | Overall | 5.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Debute of ICSPC, a new hungarian demo-group. They say they need a gfx dude (and it shows!). Demo looks like Panic or Facts of Life - based, but looks ╒ehmσ poooor... It should be a techno-party, contains some techno-effects, but.. (watch it and you'll make your own opinion). Starts with ray-traced animation (many demo coders hate raytraced pictures & animations - 'cause it only shows that you can use a 3D Studio (or whatever), not you are good in demo-coding!) +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ADDYDEMO | | Graphics | 1 | | Group | HYPERNOVA | | Music/Sound | 3 | | Size | 319,051 | | Coding | 2 | | Date | May 1, 1993 | | Overall | 2.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ A good example of why you can't use high-level languages for coding demos. This was written in Turbo Pascal, and it shows. This demo is slow, and choppy. Graphics? Hardly! Drawn with deluxe paint, just like the font. If your thinking about coding in pascal/C, take a look at this, it might discourage you... +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ADPARTY (Party'93 inv.) | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Access Denied | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 265,528 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | November, 1993 | | Overall | 6.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ A short invitation to Party'93 by Access Denies (PC-organizer of Party). Nothing much to say about this one - its just a typer (with music and nice screen at the begining). +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ALIVE! | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | Rebels | | Music/Sound | 6 SB(pro)/ DA/ PCS | | Size | 64,081 | | Coding | 4 | | Date | October 11, 1993 | | Overall | 5.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Rebels' first release on PC - just to say they are here. Logo, stars in background and text-writer (and cool music for 2k of samples) +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ALPHAPCI | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | PoWER CRiSiS iNTERNATiONAL | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 282,521 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | November, 1993 | | Overall | 6.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Coded slowly (probably in such a higher language - but looks good also, augh - slow and unsync), cotains some obvious parts (sine-scrollers, delay bectors, etc), and such a interesting modificaction of wormhole. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | AMNESIA | | Graphics | 9 | | Group | Renaissance | | Music/Sound | 10 | | Size | 1,356,908 | | Coding | 9 | | Date | November 4, 1992 | | Overall | 9.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ MEGA DEMO is right! This sucker has nine parts and six musical pieces. This demo includes transparent vectors, shade vectors, virtual reality, entropy, shade patterns, plasma effects and mega--slam into the wall--music. The first tunes is one of the best I've heard on a demo. This demo stands on the same platform as the UNREAL demo. No doubt about it, this is a winner. Hope you have a 386 and can hear the tunes. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | AMOURFOU (L'AMOUR FOU) | | Graphics | 3 | | Group | Idaho | | Music/Sound | 4 (Sound Blaster) | | Size | 1,108,096 | | Coding | 2 | | Date | September 27, 1993 | | Overall | 3.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ I don't even know how to start about this one. It's basically a picture slide-show of photos scanned in from a French magazine of two people who went on a picnic, but ended up as victims of cannabalism. The pictures are quite shocking. I've watched brain surgery, knee surgery, and some other operations done in a hospital, but I've never seen so much gore of this nature. Pitty what the world is coming to. Pictures were taken in 1981. If you don't have the stomach for seeing maimed body parts, DON'T DOWNLOAD this one. It's quite frank in nature. It would help if you could read French too. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ANGRY (I AM ANGRY) | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | Gimle of sYmptom | | Music/Sound | 5 (GUS) | | Size | 48,830 | | Coding | 5 | | Date | June 28, 1994 | | Overall | 5.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Not much in this demo. Has a wire frame part. Couldn't really make out what the objects were, plasma effects, and a greets part done in EGA's 640x350 mode. Author pretty much wrote this demo just to show of his new syncronized player routine. Off course it's a GUS only demo. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ANIMAL | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | Validus | | Music/Sound | 5 | | Size | 219,410 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | March 20, 1993 | | Overall | 6.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ There is not much to this demo--plasma, a graphics picture of what appears to be a lion, and music. However, the THRASH music is really good--something Ihave not heard in any demos. The funny thing about this deme is the "Cognition-Enhancement Drugs" article included in the .exe file as a joke. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ANODYNE | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | DEUS | | Music/Sound | 8 GUS/SB(pro) | | Size | 398,900 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | July 5, 1994 | | Overall | 7.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Quite nice dentro (their first prod). More pictures than coded effects there... +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ANTIBAR | | Graphics | 2 | | Group | Mr.Fanatic of SMA POSSE | | Music/Sound | - | | Size | 4,193 | | Coding | 3 | | Date | June, 1992 | | Overall | 2.5 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Quite funny (and short) complaint about bars. Everything is based on bars & moving, used lots of efects with bars. To characterize the principle of this short demo I chose following messages from scroller: "... and now I never want to see those things again in another demo!" and "please be original!" (so - to other (especially new) demo-groups - please be original!) +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | APPEAL (Hex-appeal) | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Cascada Demo Section | | Music/Sound | 8 | | Size | 1,203,408 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | August 19, 1993 | | Overall | 8.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Hex-appeal - very first demo after some changes in Cascada. Cascada is now working on some commercial stuff, and, here is Cascada Demo Section! Generaly, the most impressive thing (for me) is sound-setup: in gfx :-) Pretty cool music (Zodiac is still Cascada's D.S. musician) Interesting math-transforming of fractal-based object, and (with SB neverending) cube & texture mapping... +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ARTNOISE | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | SONIX | | Music/Sound | 6 | | Size | 907,524 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | November 17, 1992 | | Overall | 6.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ A castle ripped from the "Prince of Persia" game, some skulls transforming and bouncing, and an Art of Noise color/scrolling effect (neat) make up the graphical part of this demo. The music was sampled from the Art of Noise "The Fon Mixes" album. The tune is a rather poor example of the Art of Noise's musical ability. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ASM-93 (Asm'93 invitation) | | Graphics | 9 | | Group | Future Crew | | Music/Sound | 9 | | Size | 428,925 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | June 15, 1993 | | Overall | 8.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Invitation to Assembly'93 (FC were organizers (Extreme said disorganizers ;-) of Asm'93/PC section). World of Plastic composed by Purple Motion (good), nice logo in 16 colors by Marvel, and nice looking typer coded by Psi... (btw: this typer was really quickly plagiated by VLA) +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ASMINST | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Gollum | | Music/Sound | 9 GUS | | Size | 1,341,946 | | Coding | 9 | | Date | January 24, 1994 | | Overall | 8.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Assembler Instinct - Party'93 7th demo - I was really suprised - it is really cool (some parts of it). Several obviose one: vector-dots, plasma, rotating bitplane. But ckeck out: vector-slime cube, textured and ground-shaded (!) Or two objects going across each other (like you sure know it from CD2) - but textured... Also, you can see photos of Gollum's members here (in last part) - mapped on vector cube. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ASSEMBLY'94 INVITATION | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Future Crew & Sonic PC | | Music/Sound | 8 GUS/SB(pro) | | Size | 275,528 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | April 8, 1994 | | Overall | 7.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ An invitation to Assembly'94 - Third phase. At first, I was really suprised that everything is done by FC except coding! (Mik/Sonic PC) Just one note: at the end of this week Scream Tracker 3 was released (finally!), so I believe its better to release ST3 (but accoding Trug ST3 wansn't the reason why PSI didn't coded this invtro). Allright, music - as usual by Purple Motion, some information texts, nothing to say about it except - wait for ASSEMBLY'94! +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ASM-94_2 (ASM'94 INV.) | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Future Crew & Sonic PC | | Music/Sound | 8 GUS/SB(pro) | | Size | 247,489 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | July 3, 1994 | | Overall | 8.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ An invitation to Assembly'94 - Third phase. This is an update to the up coming demo party. Coding is done by Mike of Sonic PC, graphics by Marvel, and the music is by Skaven. A couple of files come along with the party announcments indicating the rules, sponsors, and location of where the demo party is being held (two GIF files). There's a part where you can play space invaders while watching the names of the sponsors scroll by. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ASYLUM | | Graphics | 2 | | Group | ?? | | Music/Sound | - | | Size | 2,942 | | Coding | 3 | | Date | January 4, 1994 | | Overall | 2.5 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ just an unreal-like landcape in 3kB (without recognition of height) +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ATOM | | Graphics | 1 | | Group | Sorceres | | Music/Sound | 2 | | Size | 23,552 | | Coding | 2 | | Date | October 16, 1990 | | Overall | 1.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Plays digitized music through the PC speaker and turns and off the lights on the keyboard as well as drive A's light. I like the fact that the music's speed depends on the processor. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | AVL-REB (Rebel BBS intro) | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Avalanche | | Music/Sound | 8 GUS | | Size | 30,753 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | February 26, 1994 | | Overall | 7.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Intro for Rebel Planet BBS - stars, big title and texts on one screen. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | BALMANIA | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Sorceres | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 234,104 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | September 24, 1991 | | Overall | 6.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ The music may not work if you choose the SB along with 20,000 Hz. These people like moving color. There are six color bars and color boxes giving a "traveling down a road" effect toward a mountain. Flipping period font scroll and music I really dig but do not know why. There are some "balls" moving around. The scroll text is VERY long so you might want to go into the file to read it all. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | BARRYNUK | | Graphics | 4 | | Group | ATOMiC | | Music/Sound | 6 | | Size | 466,639 | | Coding | 3 | | Date | May, 1993 | | Overall | 4.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Starts with realy funny Norad OS ;-) (Yeah, american centre for nuclear war). But main(?) part is poor, also gfx & coding. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | BARTBLND (Bart Blender) | | Graphics | 4 | | Group | Sick Flick Productions | | Music/Sound | 3 | | Size | 472,606 | | Coding | 1 | | Date | December 1, 1990 | | Overall | 2.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ A demo that uses fli files to do the animation and voc files for the sound is a demo that should not be here, but it is. There is no "real" code in this demo so the "1" is a gift. By the way, what is Bart Simpson doing? +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | BATOBA (Back to Basic) | | Graphics | 3 | | Group | The Inferiors | | Music/Sound | - ? | | Size | 1,140,368 | | Coding | 4 | | Date | April 1, 1994 | | Overall | 3.5 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Back to Basic! Let's code demos in basic! Okay, just kidding. As it is said in the begining - it is not a serious production. Coded in Basic (not! it is not coded in basic - mainly Microsoft C (& 386 code) and pascal, and - file 17 is windows-executable! (NE-new exe format, but not for windows 3.1 ;-) Also lots of parts look basic-like (including gw-basic emulator :)) +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | BBSINTRO | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | Anarchy | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 240,041 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | December 17, 1993 | | Overall | 6.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Anarchy's intro for distro BBS. Vector rotated A and typer (btw: there is such a bug in their transform rountines - on some angles they've probs with distance-recognition...) +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | BEATY16 | | Graphics | - | | Group | | | Music/Sound | - | | Size | | | Coding | - | | Date | | | Overall | -.- | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Unseen. Still waiting for someone to review this. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | BEWARE | | Graphics | 1 | | Group | ?? | | Music/Sound | 2 | | Size | over 2MB? | | Coding | 1 | | Date | 1993? | | Overall | 1.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Megademo(??) coded in Basic(! oh!). Actually, there are no marks less than 1 (for graphics and coding)... Music player is a gustsr, demo coded in Basic - just one example for all: "Realtime filled circle!" (.... no comment ....) +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | BIG BIGGER BIGGEST | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Infernals | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 257,698 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | May 2, 1992 | | Overall | 6.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Pretty decent SB music with a spacey backgroung. The main theme of this demo is the massively huge scroll. There are about 3 tunes in the music, but do you have the patients to watch the whole scroll? +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | BIP4TUT | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | The Binary Poets | | Music/Sound | 6 | | Size | 474,692 | | Coding | 5 | | Date | June 10, 1993 | | Overall | 5.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ A Track-demo by Binary poets (they say track-demo? this has almost nothing to do with a track demo!). Raytraced picture (not so cool). Morpher(!) - all members of Binary Poets - looks good. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | BIRTHTRO | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Extreme | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 235,271 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | May 12, 1993 | | Overall | 6.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ 13/4 - Birthday of Extreme! No-Limit muzax (no limit in coding? not easy to say. Extreme separated s few months after this birthtro). Some vectorcubes, texts, stars - thats all (done in one day (they said)). +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | BIZAR (MegaDemo ][) | | Graphics | 1 | | Group | Bizar | | Music/Sound | 4 | | Size | 767,615 | | Coding | 4 | | Date | December 28, 1993 | | Overall | 3.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ At first gfx is ... some raytraced, some drawn (do they have gfx artist? I don't think so!). Delay vectors, delaydots, bitplane rotating, lens... but design of demo is not so good. (btw: comparing size and quality (&time) of demo - have they ever seen Techno-holic?) +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | BIZARRE | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Acme | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 198,503 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | February 23, 1994 | | Overall | 6.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ An invitation to BiZARRE party (PC only). +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | RBGDEMO1 (Black Glass 1) | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Renaissance | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 224,423 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | April 9, 1992 | | Overall | 7.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This demo may also be known as RBGDemo. It has decent SB Pro music and the often seen vector ball routine. The highlight of this demo is the "glass" or mirror of the text/vectorballs seen on the bottom of the screen. There are two music files included. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | BLACKZON (Black Zone) | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | Masque | | Music/Sound | 5 | | Size | 79,873 | | Coding | 5 | | Date | December 25, 1993 | | Overall | 5.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This is an intro which placed 3rd place at THE PARTY III. Contains dot tunnels which were *quite* slow on my 486SX/33 MHz with local bus VGA, 3D factcal landscape (slow also), gouraud shaded polygons, and a quite long zoom credits/greets section. Code in this intro needs to be a bit optimized. All the same it was amusing to watch. It ran with my GUS, but I'm not sure whether it supports SB(Pro). +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | BLACKOUT | | Graphics | 3 | | Group | Platinium | | Music/Sound | 6 | | Size | 480,636 | | Coding | 4 | | Date | November, 1993 | | Overall | 4.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Not so impressive one. It requires some gfx & design improvement (a lot). Contains some pre-counted(?) plasma with color-rotaing, interesting fractal-drawing (not so fast for a zoomer, but so impressive fast). +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | BLASTER2 (Blaster Sound BBS)| | Graphics | 5 | | Group | Iguana | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 54,900 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | February 18, 1994 | | Overall | 6.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Cool snowing BBS intro by Iguana, including source-code. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | BLTDEMO (Vector Shock) | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | BlackTech | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 1,378,486 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | January 15, 1994 | | Overall | 6.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Nice texture-based demo (btw: 486╒DX2 & vlbσ is strongly recomended for real entertainment). Totally amazing raster/copper bar effects. Unique wobble, flood, water, and other unseen parts are shown in this demo. The tune gets a trite after awhile. All in all this is a great demo in the "effect" category. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | Core Advertisement | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | HyperNova | | Music/Sound | - | | Size | 14,710 | | Coding | 4 | | Date | April 25, 1994 | | Overall | 3.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Simple scroller advertising the Coreland BBS. He has put together a nice demo (and a LONG greetz list I failed to sit thru). The coding stands out as good, and the unknown composer muzak is not bad, though a little unprofessional. Lots of parts make this demo good. There is a vector ball flag, volume bars, line bobs, a interesting but hard to read wave+wave scroller. The gfx are minimal, but don't detract from an overall good demo. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | CRONOLOGIA | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Cascada | | Music/Sound | 8 | | Size | 474,203 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | Late 1991 | | Overall | 8 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This demo shows a picture of all the members in the group. This is the second great Triton's production - their second almost vector-demo. Contains lots of vector-parts (really nice is a 'Virtual Reality' Part and 'ChessBoard' (for REAL entertainment at least 486 DX 50 VLB is strongly recomended!)). Also 'famous' fractal zoomer (because it's pre-calculated!). And all this GREAT stuff with lots of GREAT music... +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | Cyber Hell | | Graphics | 3 | | Group | BBS Advertisment (???) | | Music/Sound | 3 | | Size | 319,312 | | Coding | 2 | | Date | July 4, 1994 | | Overall | 2.6 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This is just a simple BBS advertistment. It's a track-demo, some parts are only slide shows or animation. You will also see common vector tunnel. Now it doesn't look like a good demo. But the design is GOOD for nowadays demos and it's worth seeing! +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | CYBOMAN | | Graphics | 4 | | Group | Gazebo | | Music/Sound | 6 | | Size | 78,780 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | January 4, 1994 | | Overall | 6.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Winning PC intro at Party'93. If your an Akira fan, the pics are sure to please you. The demo is basically an Akira picture slide show with interfering circles, 3D dots, and fractal zooms. For some reason, it wouldn't work on my GUS which is set at address 240, when I tried it with my SB, the demo would kick me out telling me I didn't have enough memory to continue (my machine's a 486SX/33 MHz with 4 MB of RAM). I had to watch the demo in silence, and play the MOD files with a Mod-file player! =( Not a pleasant way to "enjoy" a demo... +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | CW2 (Crazy World) | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Flatline prod. | | Music/Sound | 7 AdLib | | Size | 4,559 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | June, 1994 | | Overall | 6.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Short intro - rotated vectors and text. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | CWBAGGER (Bagger) | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | Crapware | | Music/Sound | 6 AdLib | | Size | 30,865 | | Coding | 5 | | Date | May, 1994 | | Overall | 5.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Jupning logo and typing texts. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | DANCUBE | | Graphics | - | | Group | BEZEL | | Music/Sound | 1 SB | | Size | 1,381,424 | | Coding | 1 | | Date | August, 1992? | | Overall | 1.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Ok, yet another clear example how NOT to code demo. This one (which is probably the first demo to do this) supports the GUS sound card. My advice is to read the warning text file and never allow the demo to do a clean boot. Play it safe. Color bars going to the beat of the music, a skull whos eyes light up and a changing sinus scroll are just a few of the features in this quicky. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | DD (Digital Dreams) | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Divine | | Music/Sound | 5 | | Size | 644,991 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | Jule 1, 1994 | | Overall | 5.6 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Hm, the first release from Divine. Nothing great, some old vector stuff, a lot of boring texturing (textured box), old style wormhole (still used today?). Nothing new, I must say. But I'd like to say some words about gfx. The introduction word 'presents' is ripped from Wish/Magic 12 and the devil from 2nd Reality/Future Crew can be also seen there (but in changed palette :)). Well, but guys mentioned this in the ending scrolly so it is OK? Nothing interesting to say about it except there was a pre-release(?) called debut_f or so, without music, but with many bugs, flashing dot- animation, etc.. (but it was about 88kb long) +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | DELUS_SW | | Graphics | 4 | | Group | Delusion | | Music/Sound | 8 | | Size | 302,967 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | January 20, 1994 | | Overall | 6.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Delusion calls themselves the only choice demo group from New Zealand. I guess I agree with them. The demo contains a fading Star Wars scroller, a great "TV quality" ship fly-by, and a nice musical score. Works with SB, SB Pro. There really are no gfx to speak of, just a couple of decent fonts. Overall this is worth a download. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | DEFCON | | Graphics | 2 | | Group | VLA | | Music/Sound | 2 | | Size | 131,769 | | Coding | 2 | | Date | April 21, 1993 | | Overall | 2.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ A simple texture mapping demonstration ad for the upcoming DEF CON I. Some nice special effects, that we have all seen before (Plasma, VectorBalls, Dot Flags, etc). A major mistake was the switching back to text mode in between each part looks tacky. Not a bad demo overall. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | DELTA001 | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | DELTA | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 162,652 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | November 9, 1992 | | Overall | 6.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Little loader by the group Delta mentions that they will make your gropu a loader or ansi file. Version 0.1 has some PC speaker clicking and has a spinning vectorball triangle. Version 0.2 has a neat circle pan-out to show the delta graphics and then rotates a box around and around. Short demos. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | THE ADLIB DEIGHT ISSUE #1 | | Graphics | - | | Group | Anarchy PC | | Music/Sound | 5 (FM synth music) | | Size | 333,834 | | Coding | 2 | | Date | February 17, 1994 | | Overall | 2.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This isn't really a demo, but one of those many C64 music to Ad Lib FM music conversions. Songs are pretty good. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | DELIRIUM | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Electromotive Force (EMF) | | Music/Sound | 6 SB/DAC/Disney | | Size | 115,571 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | June 25, 1994 | | Overall | 6.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This demo is reminiscent of the early PC demo scene. It's a static screen with a 3D star field, scroll text at the top of the screen, equlizer bars for the music, and a text writer within the star field. Music wasn't bad at all. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | DELUS-SW (Starwarz) | | Graphics | 4 | | Group | Delusions | | Music/Sound | 5 | | Size | 300,530 | | Coding | 5 | | Date | January 18, 1994 | | Overall | 4.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ A short intro with starwars-scroller, starfiled and raytraced star- ship in one screen. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | DELUSION | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Sonic | | Music/Sound | 8 | | Size | 1,893,480 | | Coding | 9 | | Date | January 24 1993 | | Overall | 8.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Delusion "placed" third at the PARTY II in Denmark. Contents include delay (shade) vectors, shade bobs, metallic vectorballs, realtime plasma (looks great), a two scroll (one horizontal and one sine moving vertical scroll) greet screen, two short animation sequences, credits screen with moving (real) "glass" lenses, and finally a picture of Einstein being swirled down a toilet. Packed full of interesting effects. Certainly a winner for Sonics "second" demo. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | DEMO3 (Megademo 3) | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | Arkham | | Music/Sound | 5 SB/DA/PCS | | Size | 432,800 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | March, 1993 | | Overall | 5.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Some interesting (amiga)blitter-like effects. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | DEMONIC | | Graphics | 9 | | Group | Phantom | | Music/Sound | 9 GUS | | Size | 798,311 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | April 17, 1994 | | Overall | 8.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Nice "trackmo" with interesting landscape-fly (I was suprised :)) , also nice pic called: We like doom :)) (me too!) +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | DENTRO | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Ultraforce | | Music/Sound | 8 | | Size | 370,912 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | August 25, 1992 | | Overall | 7.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ A dentro for pandora's box--whatever that means. This demo seems to do a lot of talking... Perhaps this is a little demo to permote a demo. Anyhow, when someone says Ultraforce quality demos come to mind and this is no exception. Excellent graphics, interesting routines, space, copper bars, awesome stereo music, cool shade bars, mirrored scroll, and more scrolls. The SECRET key combination is: CONTROL and RIGHT_SHIFT and F9 and GRAY_PLUS and 0 This key combination will show you thumb size pictures of the coders within the scrolling demo section. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | DESTROY | | Graphics | 1 | | Group | ?? | | Music/Sound | - | | Size | 415,547 | | Coding | 2 | | Date | March, 1991 | | Overall | 1.5 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Some scrolls (like in very-very old demos), slow vector-balls, and so on. If this demo was released in '88, i would say, great. But since it is '91 production - it's.. poor... +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | DFCDEMO | | Graphics | 1 | | Group | DFC | | Music/Sound | - | | Size | 76,707 | | Coding | 2 | | Date | August 29, 1993 | | Overall | 1.5 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Demo coded in Borland C++ with inline asm. Augh. I think the only suitable language for demos is ASM. Why - watch this and compare... For example filled vectors was rather slow on 386SX33 (without any muzax) - in comparison with CD2 - much more complex vectors, muzax on SB (takes lots of CPU time) - and its much-much faster. Why? Because of asm! Demo uses default borland BGI interface (oh god!), slow math routines (e.g. 3D transformation of 100 dots was SLOW!)... +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | DIFTRO | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Digital Infinity | | Music/Sound | - | | Size | 292,811 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | February 27, 1993 | | Overall | 6.5 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ If you run this with a memory manager present you get a nice text/gfx you would otherwise miss. Of course the scroll might screw up a bit but that is what the text message mentions. This is a one part demo/ intro consisting of a scroll on top of a moving (up down & right) boxy scroll, Digital Infinity logo and of course some cool period vector letters (3D). The vectors UF, TX, and US remind me of what the Future Crew did in their "theparty" demo. Neat mirror effect with the vectors. Pervious work by a memember of this group includes mcdemo and unodemo. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | DIFTRO2 | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Digital Infinity | | Music/Sound | - | | Size | 349,974 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | March 17, 1993 | | Overall | 6.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Digital is back again with another diftro. This one has a bouncing diftro II logo, scrolling blue and white checkerd board background and a text scrolling message. Of course we must not forget the ending ansi screen or the decent DI logo. Still GUS only but the big .001 file is a MOD--so you can hear what the music is like. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | DIGIART (SHADE ART) | | Graphics | 2 | | Group | Digital Arts | | Music/Sound | 5 | | Size | 317,722 | | Coding | 2 | | Date | April 25, 1993 | | Overall | 3.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ A simple program done in Turbo Pascal that does shading. This demo has an interactive part, and it won't let you run without a mouse. Uses Deluxe Paint fonts, with simple graphics. Has a very catchy boogie-woogie kind of tune that goes with it. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | DIGITAL DELIGHT | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Divine | | Music/Sound | 5 SB/DAC/DISNEY | | Size | 638,748 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | July 22, 1994 | | Overall | 6.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ New demo group called Divine comes in with this great demo. It's quite good for their first attempt. Has trasparent polygons, a lot of cool palette cycling effects, texture-mapping, and much more. It's quite worth getting! Make sure you type MODE CO80 after the demo ends. It seems like they forgot to completely return the VGA palette to normal when it's over with. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | DIGITAL MATRIX | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Legend Design | | Music/Sound | 6 | | Size | 1,645,091 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | August 15, 1993 | | Overall | 6.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ First Legend's production since Alpha has been kicked out (now he founded a group called Axcelerator Logic). His BBS is called "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe." The graphics consist of text and some redish balls snaking along the middle of the screen. His bbs has limited hours (11), limited space (100megs), and is probably not local. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | DISTANCE | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Distance Programming Team | | Music/Sound | 6 | | Size | 261,833 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | July 18, 1991 | | Overall | 6 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ The scroll starts with with a foreign languange but does lead into English. Repeative music, color bars and a wavy dotted (sometimes hard to read) scroll are a part of the package. Bitplane-mapped vector world (now known as Doom gfx), cool bitplaned tube, some nice plasmas and cube with land-scape.. Some more notes about his track-demo: spectrum analyzer on keyboard, updated version has changed a greeting text (originaly there was 'Greeting go to everybody attending party') to group-greetings... +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | DV-DANCE (Devils Dance) | | Graphics | 1 | | Group | TSG | | Music/Sound | 2 | | Size | 656,498 | | Coding | 1 | | Date | Jule 13, 1993 | | Overall | 1.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Yet another example that you MUST NOT code demos in high level language such as Pascal o C++ at (least without full asm procedures ;-) And the worst thing is, that programmers of stuff like this think they are really cool. Contains wavy skull, rotating EKB, and a cyber punk futurestic blue steel face moving around on the scroll screen. Imagine what their demo will be like if this-- at 300+K--is simply an intro. I was most impressed by the 6400 byte FC BBS intro that came with this. How did FC do all that in only 6400 bytes? +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | ELEMENTS | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Xeography | | Music/Sound | 9 | | Size | 1,429,939 | | Coding | 9 | | Date | October 28, 1993 | | Overall | 8.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ 3rd Demo at Asm'93 - cool, but not so good designed... This treat contains a spectrum analyser, space coming at you, and a circular scroll in the middle of the screen. Alas there is also a one line scroll on the top of the screen. Pretty good first demo by a single person. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | EPIC | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Zuul Design | | Music | 7 | | Size | 856,644 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | June 5, 1994 | | Overall | 7.6 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This demo's loading with a bunch of neat effects and graphics. The lightsource vector equalizer--spinning graphics (vectors) that also act as an equalizer--is definitaly first class coding. The final (and I believe older part) is a HOUSE TECHNO demo consisting of rave/techno/pop music and graphics. People dance in this demo. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | FAKEDEMO | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | Pelusa | | Music/Sound | 6 | | Size | 308,695 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | November 23, 1993 | | Overall | 6.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ "FAKE" demo - plasma, lens, unreal-like landscape, flashing panic-like double-scroll, shadebobs, unreal-like wormhole, rotating bitplane, fast mandel(!), also mandel-animation (pre-counted), flame&text - all this effects are known and most of them were already published with sources.. There are four main parts. It opens with a nice transparent squiggly font, then switches to a rotating cube with a strobing background. Part three is wormhole/tunnel effect and from what I can tell it would have been a great effect! For some reason I got garbage on the screen. (Actually, after the cube, I can't tell if the garbage was intentional or not.) The fourth part makes the intro worth watching. (I just wish it would last longer) It's a modified lens effect using a chubby hand. I only have two complaints: (1) I hate waiting for a program to setup, (2) You have to press ESC to end the intro, or you will looking at credits forever. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | THE FINAL DREAM (FDREAM) | | Graphics | 3 | | Group | Magnetic Dream | | Music/Sound | 4 | | Size | 3,365,764 (variable) | | Coding | 3 | | Date | July 1, 1994 | | Overall | 3.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This demo's quite wierd in my opinion. Graphics aren't that good. Basic copper bars, plasma effect, and boring texts and scrolls. It also contains tons of profanity, and even has a picture of male genitalia for the "FUCKINGS" part where the send their greets to persons who had done them wrong. Yuck. Also, the file DREAM.EXE is actually a compressed executable which decompresses the actual EXEs used in the demo onto your harddrive. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | FIRE | | Graphics | 2 | | Group | Forge | | Music/Sound | 3 | | Size | 92,726 | | Coding | 4 | | Date | September 27, 1993 | | Overall | 3.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ A fire with some text(s) and authentical sound ;-) +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | FIREDEMO | | Graphics | 4 | | Group | VangeliSTeam | | Music/Sound | 5 | | Size | 183,171 | | Coding | 4 | | Date | May 11, 1993 | | Overall | 4.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Fire with source code (with muzax as a shell of Vangelis's player). +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | FIRSTBLD (1st Blood) | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Paradise | | Music/Sound | 4 | | Size | 147,917 | | Coding | 4 | | Date | June 25, 1994 | | Overall | 4.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This is basically a standard starting demo for this new group. It displays a basic burning fire with fading text. While fires are common, it is impressive that it was done in less the 4k. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | FLASH (LV_FLASH) | | Graphics | 2 | | Group | Last Vision | | Music/Sound | 2 | | Size | 181,956 | | Coding | 3 | | Date | April 13, 1993 | | Overall | 2.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Displays the letters 'CRON' on the screen (Pre-Rendered) while the traditional moving squares background flows behind it. It use to be a show on HBO but is probably in syndication now. Anyways, when I uncompressed this piece I noticed a 1 MEG .VOC file and my hopes quickly faded. This crapper contains a scroll that is a combination of broken English and some other language. There is a BW VGA picture of someone with a "drawn on" redish santa cap and a hard to read scroll coming out of the guys mouth. The "sung" music is horrendous--what is Fraggel Barj anyways? Pure crap. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | FRANTIC | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Confusion | | Music/Sound | 6 | | Size | 296,960 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | October 11, 1992 | | Overall | 6.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Couple scrolls, mountain background, color bars, and three red balls make up the main portions of this demo. The PC speaker gave off such a high pitched it ruined the whole demo for me. Most of the text in this demo seems to be of Polish origin. The usual shadebobs, vectors, scrolls, and coder mugshots can be found within the package. If you can rip music you and like Metallica then check this out. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | FUDGE (Fudged Insanity) | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Razor 1911 | | Music/Sound | 9 GUS/SB(pro) | | Size | 69,106 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | April 4, 1994 | | Overall | 8.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Little Razor's intro - 48 cubes of different colors rotating on one screen. As you probably know, raytraced pictures are not so popular on demo-scene, because it only shows that you are able to use a raytracer, not that you are a good gfx artist. Also coding is not so good - most of routines looks like already published sources (I mean flame, wormhole, fractal-plasma and unreal- landscape), but there are two parts with scrollers - really slow even on suitable machines. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | FUZZY (Fuzzy LogicBBS intro)| | Graphics | 3 | | Group | SMA Pose | | Music/Sound | 4 | | Size | 9,277 | | Coding | 4 | | Date | 1993 | | Overall | 3.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Intro(s) for Fuzzy logic - one of them with AdLib music. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | GBU_SP | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Surprise!Production | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 1,755,196 | | Coding | 9 | | Date | 1993 | | Overall | 7.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - Party'93 2nd demo. It's loaded with morphin' vector balls, dot tunnles, ray traced pics, fractal landscape equalizers, texture mapping, and much more. It should be noted that this demo was written using the famouse WordUp Graphics Toolkit library. C source included with it. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | GNOUC | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | Genuine | | Music/Sound | 4 SB(pro)/DA/PCS | | Size | 98,802 | | Coding | 5 | | Date | May 3, 1994 | | Overall | 4.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Morping dot-vectors. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | GOTHIC | | Graphics | 2 | | Group | ??? | | Music/Sound | - | | Size | 277,835 | | Coding | 1 | | Date | July 6, 1994 | | Overall | 1.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Not muc to this demo at all. Nothing to write home about. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | HEADBANGERS BALL | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Access Denied | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 833,432 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | March 21, 1992 | | Overall | 7.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This demo gave me an error the first time I ran it but worked fine for the boot disk I use for other demos. This demo contains lots of graphic/font logos--well done too. The main part of this demo has Nirvana music--smells like teen spirit--digitized--a small, and some balls moving with the music. Its more like moshing music then head banging music. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | HELL | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Tran (Tran productions) | | Music/Sound | 8 | | Size | 1,318,738 | | Coding | 9 | | Date | November 2, 1993 | | Overall | 8.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ First demo production of Tran (Ex-Renaissance) since he left this demo-group. It is a well crafted and good looking intro. One of the best intros for it's size I've seen. Demonstrates scroller bars, shade bobs and star fields. The music in the first part is hard hitting. The landscape section looks something like what the FC did in UNREAL except this one is VERY fast on a 486. It seems like every group is doing shade patterns after UNREAL. Imitation is the best for of flattery you know. This demo ends by turning everything UPSIDE DOWN. Even my text editor work in this awkard mode. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | JUNGLY KITCHEN | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Twilight Zone | | Music/Sound | 6 | | Size | 1,185,681 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | January 25, 1993 | | Overall | 7.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This demo will support your Gravis UltraSound card. So "GUS" get it! The main theme in this demo is "animation." This is not specifically stated anywhere but its inirectly implied via the fire in the intro, the globe in the greet screen, and of course the intricate jungle scene which has to be seen to be believe. A stereotypical native African drums (out of the wrong speakers) while something keeps running by. The facial expressions, eye, hand, and belly movement make for a funny though repeative scene. Shade bobs with background color changing and a left to right bouncing scroll conclude this demo. Unique, and humorous. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | J!P_SEXI | | Graphics | 3 | | Group | Jeskola!productions | | Music/Sound | 3 | | Size | 53,098 | | Coding | 4 | | Date | January 6, 1994 | | Overall | 3.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ LOPPIAISMAINEN JOULUKUUSI KAATTIXELLE INTRO/ Jeskola. There is also a mountain background, space, some balls following a sine path, and the name of the group moving back and forth at the top of the screen. There is somewhat of an 'elitest' attitude problem with these coders. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | KILLTIME (Killing Time) | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Breakdown demo crew | | Music/Sound | 5 SB/DA/PCS | | Size | 897,802 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | December 11, 1993 | | Overall | 6.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Bars, scroll & stars, old flame, xfading, textured boxes, that is almost all.. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | THE KRAAL | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | TS F/X | | Music/Sound | none | | Size | 123,138 | | Coding | 4 | | Date | July 18, 1993 | | Overall | 4.5 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Man aims at elephant, gets ready to shoot but gets speared by a native in the "African Wilderness." Facinating scrolls with interesting "gif" backgrounds are this demos strength. Be aware that this demo is out to offend those people who put out lame programs (demos). Examples of lame "demo" routines are shown within this demo. Some lame routines may look familiar if you are a demo collector. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | LANDS & LANDS2 | | Graphics | 3 | | Group | Natex [Person] | | Music/Sound | None | | Size | 16,863 / 5,244 | | Coding | 3 | | Date | February 1994 | | Overall | 3.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ The first intro consist of a castle on a hill peeking through some winter trees on a dark night. But it requires GUS for sound (don't ask why ;) - because you usually need a fast 386 for player for SB :)) Some vector-objects, vector-face, vector dots and so (looks quite compact). But rendered animation - I hate it... +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | LEIF | | Graphics | 3 | | Group | Somebody | | Music/Sound | NA | | Size | 4278 | | Coding | 2 | | Date | June 17,1994 | | Overall | 3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This was Somebody's contribution to The Bush Party 94. Good but short- some vectors at begining, good looking Finnish flag and landscape. Text at the very beginning say: "Caution! Kids, don't try this at home! We are trained profesionals!" (uhm? I think it should be very easy for me to make a similar intro...) +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | PICTURES FROM LONDON | | Graphics | 2 | | Group | Slovakia software | | Music/Sound | 2 | | Size | 984,082 | | Coding | 3 | | Date | December 20, 1993 | | Overall | 2.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Long playing sample (low rate), pre-counted plasma (only color rotating), flames (they look strange, like drawn), circles (slow!) in one screen. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | LOOMTRO | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | The Loom Syndicate | | Music/Sound | ? What else? Well, if you want to count a logo and a intro vector dot cube you can but don't blink unless you have a "gasp" 286. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | LUNATIC | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Extreme | | Music/Sound | ? A few of those, some bouncing cubes, shade vector dot balls, sine dots, raster vectors and even a little virtual reality part. As always Extreme provides us with a nice "The End" ending. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | MALFUNC (Total Malfunction) | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Progrex | | Music/Sound | ? Well familiar routines like vector balls, starwars scrolls, shadebobs, and sine scrolls make their presence. A sword morphing into an axe and cracking the screen as well as a landscape are the highlights of this demo. I recommend this demo to anyone who likes their demos to contain lots of graphics. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | MANTARAY | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | CSG | | Music/Sound | 6 | | Size | 191,380 | | Coding | 5 | | Date | March 18, 1992 | | Overall | 5.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This demo was created sometime 1992 and consist of a mantaray moving in a wave like motion on the screen. There is also a scroll albeit short, and a musical spectrum to go along with the semi decent soundblaster music. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | MAROON | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | ?? | | Music/Sound | 6 AdLib | | Size | 18,655 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | June 10, 1994 | | Overall | 6.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Short intro with texture rotating. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | MARSFARS (Martian) | | Graphics | - | | Group | Beanix Brothers | | Music/Sound | 5 SB(pro) | | Size | 45,637 | | Coding | - | | Date | May 13, 1994 | | Overall | 5.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Mars-demo (real-time rendered landscape) with piano-sound. Unfortunately the group split up and Mental decided to release this demo. Like the typical Extreme demo this contains decent graphics, vector graphics (beachballs), morphin of mathematical graphics, a fractal zoomer and other famous routines. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | MEACULPA | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | IC&A (Brain Slayer) | | Music/Sound | 6 | | Size | 281,353 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | July 1, 1992 | | Overall | 6 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Uses similar code as the above COMA demo but this one has the spectrum bars in a different place and some moving ray-traced stuff in the middle. Its badly coded (ehm, Lame?) but really cool - I especially like part IV. Sound track is almost sampled, but there is also a mod-part (plays some mods) and cmf part (fm music). This demo(?) requires SB Pro, but it also works with SB if you replace their drivers with your original SB drivers. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | MEGADEMO | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | Space Pigs | | Music/Sound | 5 | | Size | 373,743 (....??) | | Coding | 6 | | Date | December 21, 1990 | | Overall | 5.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ I've always wondered why everyone greets the Space Pigs and now I wonder why they still do? This demo was made in 1990 and allows sound through the PC speaker or a device you made (LPT1, LPT2). In fact, this demo is so old it was made for EGA! There are some interesting effects scattered throughout the six or so parts, especially for 1990. Perhaps it was GREAT in its days but nowadays it won't even place. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | MENTAL SURGERY | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Future Crew | | Music/Sound | 8 | | Size | 339,480 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | July 14, 1991 | | Overall | 7.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Another winner from Finland's famous. Summing things up this demo has a scroll text, space background, spectrum analizer, and of course SB music. Perhaps I over simplified here--Just get it! +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | MINUS 40 DEGREES | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Eterno production | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 528,057 | | Coding | 5 | | Date | Jule, 1993 | | Overall | 6.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Eterno production from Assembly'93. Both the text messages and the digitized voice are in Swedish (I believe). Beyond that there is a intro font and a B/W picture of a kid that looks like a young Michael Jackson. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | NINTENDO | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Typhoon | | Music/Sound | 1 | | Size | 360,316 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | April 28, 1992 | | Overall | 4.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ I though this was going to be a crappy demo after seeing the intro but I was proven wrong. Okay, so the music sucks. However, it is suppose to be Nintendo sound. After leaving the first screen which consisted of a bleeding Nintendo we are shown a picture of Nintendo's Game Boy. A zoom in occurs and the Game Boy name fades to Gay Boy. Mario dies and that superb Nintendo music is played while a RIP graphic rises on the green screen. The comment "Now your playing with Shit" appear along with "Portable Shit" on the next screen. I'll agree with the "Demo making is truly an art" idea by Typhoon. This is funny shit! +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | NM_DET (Nuclear Detonation) | | Graphics | 3 | | Group | Nuclear Meltdown | | Music/Sound | ? There were only two impressive things (for me) - and they were added after assembly - introduction xfade zoom-typer and Amnesia-like shade-lines. Also there is a plasma, vector-objects, delay vectors and bitplane-rotating. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | OPTIC NERVE | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Silents PC | | Music/Sound | 7 SB | | Size | 2,994,135 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | December 25, 1993 | | Overall | 8.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ No smartdrive, emm, or Himem stuff--this thing will not even run on a 386 without a "patch" file made by some other group. A zoom into the Silents logo/font begins this production. From there we go to a maximum overdrive style landscape which is really impressive and probably helped this demo place 2nd at Assembly '93. Sure, the Optic Plasma, Gouraud Shading, and rotating/stretching Silents Logo were nice but... There is not much to this overrated three meg demo that placed above (Surprise) Elments and Saga. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | OUT BURST | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | British Knights | | Music/Sound | 6 | | Size | 1,412,004 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | August(?), 1993 | | Overall | 6.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ First demo by British Knights. They try to use some effects in SVGA (it only works sometimes on my PC, also with tvgabio and vesa installed :-(( Also there is an example of 3D video - Red & Blue glasses required ;-) I don't know what about you, but I think it wasn't as cool 3D as it could be (may be I've got bad glasses). +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | OV-TREK (Official Version) | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | The Last Generation | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 269,634 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | July 8, 1991 | | Overall | 6.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ The intro to this demo shows a typical Amiga screen when you first power up the computer. It also gives one of those GURU errors. An OV logo, scrolling background which you can change the colors on, horizontal and vertical scrolling as well as 8 quality samples are contained within this demo. Get this for the Amiga humor and samples. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | OVERLOAD | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Hysteria | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 399,267 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | July 25, 1992 | | Overall | 6.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Seemed that this demo was going to avoid the typical "vector" stuff by the way it started but eventually the third part led to the rotating stuff. Although some of the rotating objects seemed to have a liquid form when they rotated so that is something different. The soundblaster music did not work properly for the SB pro on the computer I use, however I have heard some say this worked fine on their SB. The MOD version I have of the music is great. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | OX (Outlaw Exchange Intro) | | Graphics | - | | Group | Unholy Alliance Development | | Music/Sound | - | | Size | 264,682 | | Coding | 5 | | Date | March 13, 1994 | | Overall | 5.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Textured vector-letters O and X, and zooming of rendered OX. The info (nfo) file includes stuff about the PARTY II and which IBM groups released their demos--it even list our internet demo site. The demo itself contains horizontal, vertical, and block scrolls, a techno/acid part with symbols flashing on the screen, a graphic mountain spinning around on the screen (fractal generated?), shade bobs, period vector graphics, plasma, and future crew quality music and graphics. Wild stuff. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | BLACK PARITY (PARITY) | | Graphics | 2 | | Group | The Invisible Amoebas | | Music/Sound | 5 | | Size | 1,429,591 | | Coding | 4 | | Date | April, 1991 | | Overall | 3.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ COMPUTEX 1993 SHOW. Really show? It starts with lots dots-moving type typer (I wasn't able to wait and read it all). Also contains some delay-vectors, plasma-letter scroller (like in Amnesia), but smooth. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | PAULA (Paula Faked) | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Jamm | | Music/Sound | 7 GUS | | Size | 40,765 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | June 10, 1994 | | Overall | 7.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ My first association with name of this demo was: amiga's dedicated circuit. Mr.H (now Triton coder) is a coder of this demo. It plays 4 bit sample via D/A convertor on LPT, contains really big scroller and chessboard- like movement. The plasma, shading, and vectors were nicer than the pizza. Dominos can have this PIZZA! +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | PLANB | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Sonic PC | | Music/Sound | 7 GUS | | Size | 65,389 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | July 31, 1993 | | Overall | 7.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This intro is excellent for its size. Contains a really good starfield (>6000 stars), an awesome bouncing ball, some virtual reality, a dot tunnel, wavy vector dots, and a morphin ending. One of the better intros out there which I highly recommend. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | PLANETS | | Graphics | - | | Group | Simon Hern | | Music/Sound | - | | Size | 366,164 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | April, 1994 | | Overall | 6.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Up to three bouncing fractal-textured rotating planets on the screen. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | PLASMA | | Graphics | 1 | | Group | The Raven & The Brain | | Music/Sound | 0 | | Size | 9,973 | | Coding | 2 | | Date | December 23, 1992 | | Overall | 1.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ A decent demonstration of 'realtime' plasma, although there is not much to it. NOT! I think design of Majic 12 is now really cool. Generaly, I found one bug in this little demo - it detects GUS on any port, but works only on 220 (or you need to patch 40+ out-s ;-) But music is really nice (if rearable ;) - guitar song. PS: If you've already found how to enter secret part, tell it to us... +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | PORTAL | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Flash Productions | | Music/Sound | 7 GUS | | Size | 1,394,564 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | January 28, 1993 | | Overall | 7.6 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Two dragons, one castle, four tunes, couple copper bars, one giant scroll, shading effects, plasma, and a spacy/gravity text ending are all here in Portal. Also picci with rotating ball doesn't look good (how'bout their gfx men and designers?). And unreadable sine-scroller also flash (they do not use double- buffering for this and their routines are too slow to draw a frame during retrace) - it was on my SX33 with SB sound at 8khz :-( +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | PSY_DRM (Psychotic Dream) | | Graphics | 4 | | Group | Sorrox | | Music/Sound | 6 GUS | | Size | 66,171 | | Coding | 3 | | Date | April 1, 1994 | | Overall | 4.1 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Some demos today look XT-like.. Over five tunes and ten parts! Even though a quarter of the demo did not work I would recommend downloading this...hey, you may be lucky enough to see the lemmings part. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | PTMPFINA | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Phantom | | Music/Sound | 5 GUS/SB | | Size | 107,826 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | January 16, 1994 | | Overall | 6.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Phantom, a Hungarian groups first intro announcing their upcoming demo release. Skull starts off with a presenting screen where someone's digitized voice introduces the demo. Vanilla Ice music takes over for a bit and will lead you into part 1--nice gif, with interesting digi music. Part 2 has some "Go for it!" digitized music with a cool ball bouncing effect. Queen starts part 3 off with that cool "we will rock you" intro. Breakdown--Can't touch this! It is Mc. Hammer digitized (music). Weird wild stuff! Though the scrolls are a bit long this one is a true winner, mainly because of the all the digitized music. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | Purity | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Distortion | | Music/Sound | 5 GUS | | Size | 2,849,425 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | December 28, 1993 | | Overall | 6.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This is Distortions first demo. It contains the usual vector cubes, zooming into a graphic and starwars scroller. The spacy music was not very interesting and seemed to be quickly done. An interesting multisided vertical twisting scroll and a female picture were the highlight of this production. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | PUU (Flame) | | Graphics | - | | Group | Hoplite/Orange | | Music/Sound | - | | Size | 1,800 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | May 24, 1994 | | Overall | 6.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Flame from letters "FLAME" - short 2k intro. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | QUIKTRO | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | The Immortal Syndicate | | Music/Sound | ? It is a C program that has the word RAX (drawn with lines) rotating around the screen. Then comes a background with many colors and a window through you can see the RAX still spinning. The oldest file among this list. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | RAZOR | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Razor | | Music/Sound | 6 | | Size | 644,573 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | December 29, 1992 | | Overall | 6 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ What is the name of that HUGH crack group? Razor1911? Well, their demo division did this sucker. This a a vast improvement from some of the "crack" screen I have seen of theirs. However, their "crack" screens have better graphics and fonts. Circle shading, diagonal shading, and vectors make up this short demo. Like the man says, if ya can't hack the crack then go do the demo thing. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | REALTIME | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Impact Studios | | Music/Sound | 7 AdLib | | Size | 1,159,606 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | June, 1993 | | Overall | 7.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Lots of vector dots, vector balls and nice 16 color pictures. The introduction had about five pictures that flashed on the screen for about 1 second each. Might as well as left them out as far as I am concerned. The main part of this production contained an interesting LANDSCAPE. Very realistic and comparable to the ones seen in some of decent games. Too bad the GUS music routine only worked out of one speaker on my machine...probably the coding. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | REALTHNG | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | The Phoney Coders | | Music/Sound | - | | Size | 152,680 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | September 28, 1992 | | Overall | 7.5 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This demo is called "Even Better Than the Real Thing." Kind of sounds like a commercial. This group shows promise in demo coding. We got a wild sine scroll that breaks in two with each scroll cris-crossing. Object rotation can be found here as well. There is an interesting large blue scroll with some balls going all around and words dropping off the screen on the bottom. This demo is not compatible with a SB, only a ROLAND. Slight downfall. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | REBELFUN (Spacefun II) | | Graphics | 3 | | Group | Ultraforce | | Music/Sound | 2 | | Size | 215,051 | | Coding | 3 | | Date | December 27, 1990 | | Overall | 2.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This is like the demo below but has better digitized samples. Unfortunately they both suffer from the same effect--having digitized samples competing against "bad" music. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | REFLEX | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Arkham | | Music/Sound | 7 SB(pro)/DA/PCS | | Size | 619,132 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | August 31, 1993 | | Overall | 7.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ A short demo with some vectors, pictures, palete-animated fractals (mandel, plasma and so). +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | RMUZIK0 | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Renaissance | | Music/Sound | 8 | | Size | 576,452 | | Coding | 4 | | Date | March 1, 1993 | | Overall | 6.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Don't let the "rating" fool you about this demo. It is a music demo consisting of 3 C.C. Catch tunes. The graphics/code consist of a Renaissance logo with three sizes of bubbles slowly moving up the screen. Great music. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | RQDEMO0 | | Graphics | 4 | | Group | Renaissance | | Music/Sound | 5 | | Size | 99,154 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | February 22, 1992 | | Overall | 5.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Vertical flashing raster bars and text that can expand and fly by the screen quite quickly make up this quick Renaissance demo. There is a cool tunnel part in the beginning but it slows down each time a character of text of this groups name is thrown at the viewer. After the tunnel comes a very slow white out then a "space scene." The latter sequence is extremely slow on my 386DX40. After about 5 minutes of the slowest "space" sequence in the demo scene the credits appear. Definitely a demo not optimized for anything slower than a 486DX33. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | SCX_VGA | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Scoopex | | Music/Sound | - | | Size | 22,103 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | September 10, 1991 | | Overall | 6 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ An intro of sorts by a group from Switzerland. Frankly this is quite different from the demos we see today. This is graphic intensive. It theme consist of scanning and zooming in on a planet until it finds a fossil and then it reconstructs what the fossil looked like. Has a movie type feel to it. Interesting. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | SPACEFUN | | Graphics | 3 | | Group | Ultraforce | | Music/Sound | 2 | | Size | 201,170 | | Coding | 3 | | Date | June 20, 1990 | | Overall | 2.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ The major downfall of this demo is the digitized music and music trying to compete. The music is way too loud compared to the digitized music. In fact, the music is aweful--and that is being nice. You may want to copy your sbfmdrv.com onto this demo for better results. Then again you may want to just delete the demo. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | SP_BBS (Kilroy BBS Intro) | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Surprise!productions | | Music/Sound | 9 AdLib | | Size | 202,751 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | October 27, 1993 | | Overall | 8.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Kilroy BBS Intro - S!P's HQ. Starts out with a bunch of squash, rotating on the screen, then there is this wormhole that changes colors (really cool part), then the MD Logo spins around the screen to end this rather well done demo. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | SSIDEMO | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Future Crew | | Music/Sound | 9 GUS/SB(pro) | | Size | about 9M | | Coding | 7 | | Date | February, 1994 | | Overall | 8.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Commercial slide-show for SSI (Strategic Simulation Inc) - nice music, but NO real coding inside (except some SSI-logos) - only stored animations. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | STARBASE | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Access Denied | | Music/Sound | 9 | | Size | 100,442 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | January 1, 1993 | | Overall | 7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This little intro/demo was done to get people to call the Starbase Systems BBS. Those people who like Star Trek the Next Generation should enjoy this demo. It has digitized pictures and sound samples from the crew on the Enterprise. The samples sound very good considering the size of the file (under 500K). +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | STEREO (stereo type) | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | TEI | | Music/Sound | ? With this demo this group would probably be a candidate for the topten. Moving color bars, shade patterns, the infamous finland flag, and spectrum analyzer make up the first have of this seemingly normal demo. Then, some- thing interesting happens. A transforming shade vector routine loads up. A concept that was done with "quality." Not many gfx artists will be the fabulous credit font of this demo. The exiting 640x480 picture is impressive as well. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TANGLE - DISORDER INTRO | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Epical | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 69,522 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | Jule 30, 1993 | | Overall | 7.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Shaded vectors, bouncing ball (cool), delay dots, Unreal-like landscape. The gears are somthing like what might be done in an .FLI demo though well done here. A spectrum analyzer (what Brain Slayer demo would be complete without one), space, and a multicolor scroll are all here. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TCB-XMAS | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | The Code Blasters | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 569,567 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | December 14, 1991 | | Overall | 7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This is a mega demo of sorts with many parts. There are scrolls, moving balls, raster bars, spectrums, a painted scroll, and a bunch of in-between text writing. The music was semi-decent but fun. I really like how the beginning music starts off and goes into a Christmas mood. This is slightly better than CDA's XMAS demo so if you felt that was good then you'll enjoy this one. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TCC-INTRO | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Cascada | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 208,246 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | March 20, 1993 | | Overall | 7.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Ok, looking past the bad (obviously) setup screen the main problem with this demo was Cascada using three backgrounds--text on text on text. This made some of the text hard or impossible to read. Interesting text writer--looks somewhat like what FC used in their "theparty" demo. There are definitely some interesting background effects in this "party intro." Done to advertise the Computer Crossroads, Sweden, May 1993. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TDEMO0 | | Graphics | 2 | | Group | Renaissance/Tran | | Music/Sound | 3 | | Size | 338,184 | | Coding | 2 | | Date | January 1, 1992 | | Overall | 2.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Obviously one of Trans first demo's. Text says it is testing out his new music playing routine. Notes flying around the screen, an osc. at the bottom and some volume bars in the middle are this demo's big points. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TDSLOGIC (Logical) | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | TDS INC. | | Music/Sound | 6 GUS | | Size | 1,400,425 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | January 1, 1994 | | Overall | 6.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Vector donut and vector cubes with plasma inside (cool effect), a box VR routine, graphical tunnel, and techno are all here. No scroll, repetative music but the spookey face moves at the user in a cyclic streching fashion. This demo actually has nothing to do with Charlie. In fact, all this demo has is some text about a dutch demo net and the dutch demo scene. Not as good as I had hoped. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TODDLERS (Toddlers Terror) | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Spirit | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 87,972 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | May, 1994 | | Overall | 6.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Lots of texts at begining and then only Xfaded plasma and vector-balls. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TZTECHNO (Techno Freaks) | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Twilight Zone | | Music/Sound | 8 | | Size | 385,308 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | July 29, 1992 | | Overall | 7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Stereo Sound blaster sound! Decent computer voice saying "It's time for techno" is a part of this package. This demo has an excellent credits screen showing a picture of all the coders in the group. "The future's so bright I gotta wear shades." This demo was a nice change of pace from what is the norm. I have a feeling digitized music and pictures will be making more of an impact in the demo scene. This group could be on the leading edge. The "Twilight Zone" series was one of my favorites. Get this! BTW, I have included their SCOPE program with the LZH file. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | T-HOLIC (Techno Holic) | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Extreme | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 203,537 | | Coding | 9 | | Date | January 4, 1993 | | Overall | 8.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Every so often a demo group (like Future Crew) pushes the standard a little higher with their demo. Extreme has done exactly that with Techno Holic. Period vector objects, a text writer similar to what the Future Crew used in their pre-party II intro. The super amazing multicolor hollow snake effect was unique. Logoplasma, a quick ball vector part, shade patterns and of course a trademark cool "The End" ending. There are many short parts making up this "unreal" demo by Extreme. If only there was more music. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TG94INV | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | EXILE | | Music/Sound | 5 GUS | | Size | 318,132 | | Coding | 5 | | Date | March 10, 1994 | | Overall | 5.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ The Gathering 1994 invitation intro. Like most party intros this is high on information (text) and low on effects. It does however contain a nice bouncing cube in the beginning. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | THEPARTY | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Future Crew | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 258,196 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | November 1, 1992 | | Overall | 7.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ An "intro" demo made to permote a demo party in Denmark on Dec 27-29, 1992. Hey, it is by the Future Crew. Basically that is all that needs to be said! Vector FC spining, excellent graphics (as always), and a interesting letter writing routine. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TIMELESS | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | TRAN | | Music/Sound | 7 GUS/SB | | Size | 323,414 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | February 26, 1994 | | Overall | 7.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This is a never ending "screen saver" type demo chock full of interesting graphical effects. The music is soothing too. Definitely worth having in your demo collection. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TIMEOUT | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | EPICAL | | Music/Sound | 7 GUS | | Size | 66,765 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | December 28, 1993 | | Overall | 7.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Another fantastic EPICAL production. Contains wavy checkerboard, see through vectors, spinning dott scroll, zooming, and city virtual reality. Amazing for a 66K intro! +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TLS | | Graphics | 3 | | Group | ? | | Music/Sound | - | | Size | 63,727 | | Coding | 5 | | Date | September 14, 1992 | | Overall | 4 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This demo is actually called Titswinkle, Lost in Space. Go figure. Moving balls and background and sideways scroll sum this demo up. Sorry, no music. Boo Hoo. Definitely not by The Last Science. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TMANIA (Texture Mania) | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Dickydick | | Music/Sound | 7 GUS | | Size | 562,890 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | March 21, 1994 | | Overall | 7.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Texture mania starts off with a GUS card coming out of a box and plugging itself into your computer--hows that for a plug. There is also pretty good Texture Mapping effects in this demo. It even has a reference to DOOM (graphic wise). I liked this. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TNSDEMO | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | The Napalm Star | | Music/Sound | 5 | | Size | 183,074 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | July 25, 1992 | | Overall | 6 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Soundblaster music and various objects rotate on the screen--such as a computer, book, bomb, plane, etc. The music is slightly redundant. Coolest part of the demo is a spinning block with a member of the group on each side. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TPCDEMO (ECARGXUS) | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | The Phoney Coders | | Music/Sound | - | | Size | 575,582 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | April 18, 1992 | | Overall | 8 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Another demo done for a "party" somewhere. This demo may also be known as ECARGXUS in case you have it already. Contins some cool vector rotating stuff--house, computer--in a bright color combination. The part I liked the best is a 4-stroke engine running where it is possible to see the pistons moving. Between each of the few parts of this demo is a flying letter writer. Roland sound only. Very good examples of fading are in this demo. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TPCSHOOT | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | The Phoney Coders | | Music/Sound | - | | Size | 196,026 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | July 5, 1992 | | Overall | 7.5 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Who has the best trainer group? Apparentely TPC does. That is what the large bouncing scroll wants you to believe. The video game middle segment has good spaceship animation-- perhaps this group should be making games as opposed to training them. This demo finally ends with a raytraced picture of a joystick and phoney coder graphic. Short with no music. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TRANCE | | Graphics | 4 | | Group | CCS | | Music/Sound | ? SB | | Size | 844,098 | | Coding | 4 | | Date | December 28, 1993 | | Overall | 4.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This piece placed tenth at the Party '93. It looks like it was coded all in C or Pascal using many of the built in FONTS/GFX Routines. Nothing very interesting or worth discussing. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TRSI_WM | | Graphics | 4 | | Group | Wonder Monkey | | Music/Sound | 2 SB | | Size | 9,667 | | Coding | 3 | | Date | June 30, 1994 | | Overall | 3.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ The wonder monkey is till coding after SUSHIBAR unfortunatly it looks like the quality has gone down a bit. Well, I guess since the intro is for TRSI it is alright. If you like "springy/glassy" adlib music (sounds bad), purple waves, and choppy scrolls then get it. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TS-XMAS | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | The Square | | Music/Sound | 5 | | Size | 663,216 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | January 2, 1993 | | Overall | 6.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ The Square is back and still without a musician as you can hear. Here comes santa in his sled, and there goes santa--too quick if you ask me. Santa's resoulution looked good for those milli- seconds he was full size passing by. The Christmas graphics and year change give this demo a holiday thumbs sideways. Perhaps when TS gets a musican they will be able to make the music come out of BOTH speakers instead of one and barely the other. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TSBDEMO1 | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Renaissance | | Music/Sound | 6 | | Size | 96,420 | | Coding | 5 | | Date | December 31, 1991 | | Overall | 5.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ A simple BBS intro/demo encouraging you to call The Sound Barrier BBS (Renaissance HQ). This is a demo/sound BBS. The main coded section has a well done 3D graphic picture of the groups name, a unique see-saw come-at-you type scroll, and a bunch of blue dots doing something in the background. This demo seems to basically be a contact-intro (as its name says) for musicans. The music makes this demo an in-your-face-we-need-a-musician demo. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TSH_XMAS | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | The Skyhawks | | Music/Sound | 6 | | Size | 417,152 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | 1991 | | Overall | 6.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ If you have a memory manager this demo will not get past the "Skyhawk" screen. The first part has a one line snowy-font scroll, a snowy skyhawks graphic and some 'bricks' spinning around the bottom of the screen. Part two has a spectrum analyzer with a santa getting crushed on each analyzer. The third part consits of credits. Average graphics and sound. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TSXMAS | | Graphics | 2 | | Group | Tempo Secret | | Music/Sound | 2 SB/PC/COVEX | | Size | 73,894 | | Coding | 2 | | Date | December 23, 1994 | | Overall | 2.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This was very fast on my 386DX40 so I can imagine what it would be like on a DX66. This contains cheezy music and a ton of bad graphic routines. It is another X-MAS demo that has nothing to do with X-MAS. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TU-DEMO (Anti-svd) | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | The Untouchables | | Music/Sound | 5 | | Size | 223,262 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | June 30, 1991 | | Overall | 5.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Actually I am not sure what this demo is called but I do know it is basically an antidemo against some person named Sanders. It has some decent animation (person walking) and some well drawn pictures. And yes, there is SB music--how fast did they code this in again? This demo may be know as anti-svd on some demo sites. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | TYO-FINAL | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | The Yellow Ones | | Music/Sound | 6 | | Size | 378,406 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | May 30, 1993 | | Overall | 6.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ TYO's second and FINAL demo. This Monty Python demo contains a cast of characters including Buttman, a tiger, Sir Robin, Sir Lancelot, the Knight of Ni, Sir Knight, the Jungly Guy, Ku Klux Gunnor, Author the King, the Spanish Inquistion and a few others. Probably the funniest demo out there--even in 1994! This demo is very GRAPHIC and contains lots of voice/talking. It is actually worth buying a GUS to see demos this original. Nothing much really. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | UNLEASHED POWER (unlpower) | | Graphics | 8 | | Group | Surprise! | | Music/Sound | 8 | | Size | 1,027,139 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | May 30, 1993 | | Overall | 8 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Mostly vector demo (part 1 runs in 16 color high-res. VGA mode, but it is so smooth), Really Real-Time Mandel-Zoomer, but raster is a little small (60x50 or so ;-). Also there is a bitplane maping on cube, delay-dot objects, plasma. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | UNODEMO | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Genius Software Development | | Music/Sound | - | | Size | 175,300 | | Coding | 4 | | Date | April 15, 1992 | | Overall | 5 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ This is GSD's first demo. It contains "C & C music factory" music for the SB--but I could not hear it since this would not work on the computer I use with a SB pro. A scroll and moving GSD logo are also in this small demo. A major flaw is the fact that as the logo's routine gets more complex the scroll goes slower. Oh well. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | UNREAL 1.1 = GUS Support | | Graphics | 10 | | Group | The Future Crew | | Music/Sound | 10 SB/GUS | | Size | 2,316,000 | | Coding | 9 | | Date | August 8, 1992 | | Overall | 9.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ One of the best demos on this list. And at 2.3+ megs of disk space I can see why it should be. This demo has a bit of everything-- vectorballs, flying objects(amazing), plasma, scrolls, and even stereo music for those with the soundblaster pro. Fourteen parts in all. Simply fantastic--hope you have a fast computer though. The only downfall is the music-initialization scheme--POW! +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | URGENT | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Pentagon | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 91,500 | | Coding | 5 | | Date | Jule 31, 1993 | | Overall | 6.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Vector-Intro, looks good, good AdLib music, but've some speed-probs when transforming objects (flashing, music slowdown). +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | UNTITLED (dust_unt) | | Graphics | 9 | | Group | Dust | | Music/Sound | 9 | | Size | 1,389,033 | | Coding | 10 | | Date | January 31, 1994 | | Overall | 9.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Definitely one of the best demos on the PC to date. Starts out with a nice setup, a WONDERFUL textured vector walk thru similar to Wolf and then an "Indiana Jones" like scene where you are chased by a vector ball thru a maze. Plasma, a train track fly thru, and a nice ending top it all off. The muzak is good and fits the demo well. The gfx are way above average, and the coding is top-notch. Dust is very origional, and very creative. The KB LED's flash with the music. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | VANITY AND APATHY (va) | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Doomsday Productions | | Music/Sound | 6 | | Size | 86,088 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | Jule 29, 1993 | | Overall | 7.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ A short intro including 3D plot-scroll, such a delay "flag" (but fully blue :-) Cool rotaing bals (8x5), classic fullscreen plasma, and very fast real-time calculated julia (but not so fast to be a zoomer of course). +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | VDENTRO | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Void | | Music/Sound | 7 GUS | | Size | 371,804 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | May 5, 1994 | | Overall | 6.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ 512 colors interlaced plasma, some vectors, bals, and streching void logo. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | VECBALLS | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | TODDL | | Music/Sound | 5 | | Size | 318,776 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | July 25, 1991 | | Overall | 5.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Contins four different vector ball objects that spin around the middle of the screen. So fast that I had to flip the 486 down to 10 Mhz to be able to better read the scroll and text. A single color sine scroll they use varies in speed as the vector graphics move around the screen--most likely not done on purpose. There is a nice mirror effect, okay graphics, and a "choppy" scroll. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | VECTDEMO | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Ultraforce | | Music/Sound | 8 | | Size | 243,558 | | Coding | 8 | | Date | October 10, 1991 | | Overall | 7.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ A demo with many brilliant displays of spinning and rotating vectorballs. A green finger encourages you to enter the demo. This starts with all blue graphics, a 3D font scroll, space, and vectors. Some of the vectors are of a different color when the demo gets going. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | VIRTUAL4 | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Avalanche | | Music/Sound | 8 GUS | | Size | 476,885 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | July 28, 1993 | | Overall | 7.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Four parts make up this "leftover" demo: Introduction which consist of a fonts shooting across the screen, various vectors in and on vectors, a shade bob (shading) effect, and finally a movie scroll ending with some balls moving in the background. The interesting vector part and music make this demo worth watching. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | V_SHOCK (Virtual Shock) | | Graphics | 4 | | Group | Virtual Shock | | Music/Sound | 5 SB | | Size | 22,569 | | Coding | 4 | | Date | April 6, 1994 | | Overall | 4.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Simple intro with scroll, starfield, and music bars for the FM (adlib) music. This demo has rotating shapes, vectorballs, and soundblaster music. The strange thing is that if you want better music quality the demo slows down--sometimes substantially. Best part is seeing Scotty (from Star Trek) on all six sides of a rotating cube. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | VISION (Magnetic Vision) | | Graphics | 2 | | Group | Magnetic Team | | Music/Sound | 2 SB/DA/PCS | | Size | 383,859 | | Coding | 3 | | Date | August, 1993 | | Overall | 2.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Small & slow scrollers. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | VLA-SEA | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | VLA | | Music/Sound | - | | Size | 40,958 | | Coding | 5 | | Date | Early 1992 | | Overall | 5.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ The "sea-sick" scroll moving in an up-and-down manner explains the reasoning behind this demos name. The scroll, besides the wavy motion, has a mirrored effect. Unfortunately the scroll slows because of the message that appears in the center of the screen. There is also a VLA logo which fades between red and blue. VLA's first demo, in fact keys 1-4 (for testing) are still in this demo. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | VLASNOW | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | VLA | | Music/Sound | 6 | | Size | 100,180 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | December 18, 1992 | | Overall | 6.3 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Falling snow, a 3D rotating VLA logo, and a fading one line text message make up the main part of this x-mas demo. The demo ends with a VLA logo and blinking lights. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | WAITE GROUP PRESS (wgtdemo) | | Graphics | 7 | | Group | Future Crew | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 253,335 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | Jule 14, 1993 | | Overall | 7.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Commercial demo by FC - one of LESS impressive demos by Future Crew. Main part contains raytraced(?) background, rotated letter W (vector rotation of course) and typer. Music by Skaven: "I had 3 hours to complete it, and I didn't even have any inspirations". +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | WARGASM | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | Extreme | | Music/Sound | 6 | | Size | 674,874 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | June 29, 1992 | | Overall | 5.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ The soundblaster will not work because the coders did not fix all the bugs. The intro starts off with EXTREME rolling onto the screen. This demo contains info about the group, below par graphics, and a good village "gif" among other things. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | WARLOCK | | Graphics | 9 | | Group | Warlock | | Music/Sound | 7 | | Size | 1,390,600 | | Coding | 7 | | Date | December 28, 1992 | | Overall | 7.7 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ "The evil side of coding" demo group. You know that Metro Goldwyn Mayer tiger that growls at the beginning of old movies and TV programs? Well, they put a person (coder?) in place of the tiger. An excellent D&D (sword, gold, wizard, skull) 640x480 picture impressed me the most about this demo. Of course the "Yoo, hoo. I'll make ya famous" Young Guns saying along with the shooting of an Amiga workbench disk and flushing it off the screen will bring a smile to any PCers face. A Skull & Bones section and firework credit section conclude this demo. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | WASTED | | Graphics | 6 | | Group | Paranoids | | Music/Sound | ? SB/PAS | | Size | 434,677 | | Coding | 6 | | Date | July 31, 1993 | | Overall | 6.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Paranoids Assembly '93 production will not work without a soundcard. The "fixing" of a stack overflow problem is a nice touch in the begining--nice to see something different for a change. Other effects include a dotted and patterened landscape, and a color checkerboard during the intro. Not much here. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | WAVEBROS | | Graphics | - | | Group | Beanix Brothers | | Music/Sound | 5 SB(pro) | | Size | 119,627 | | Coding | 3 | | Date | December 1, 1993 | | Overall | 4.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ Slow scroller and "jumping" letters. +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | WGTDEMO4 | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | Wordup Software Productions | | Music/Sound | 5 SB/GUS/SBpro | | Size | 367,095 | | Coding | 5 | | Date | November 16, 1993 | | Overall | 5.0 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ A demo made to show off the wordup graphics toolkit version 4.0. Ups! After this demo lots of demo-groups greet Majic 12.. Why? Watch this demo! Note: It runs okay on Tridents (only?) - also it's good on friend's OAK. On other cards, the image is flashing - looks very bad. Make yourself sure about your video card before u run this demo. This demo contains some interesting effects, but most of them are known on PC - like a bitplane maping, vector routines, hw-vga efects, etc.. Also there is one very impresive part on the end - R, G & B light flying around the gray ball... Looks realy cool (and whole demo is so compact)... +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ | Demo | WITAN2 | | Graphics | 5 | | Group | Witan | | Music/Sound | 4 | | Size | 72,124 | | Coding | 5 | | Date | February 3, 1991 | | Overall | 4.6 | +-------+-----------------------------+ +-------------+-----------------------+ I had to place a new sound driver on this demo for it to work! The infamous ROLAND music is back-- and you though TPC was beyond that. Sine scroll, visible vectors behind a TPC symbol, shade patterns, rotating of a star in a circle, circular period scroll, unlimited bobs forming an infinite sign, and a movie ending with winding vector balls are the things you shall see if you get this demo to run.
