Applying changes will reload the page and reboot the emulator

Changes will not be applied until this browser tab has been refreshed

DOS programs need a keyboard for user input

ESC to navigate back or exit
are often used to navigate menus

Emulation too slow?
Set the emulator to use maximum CPU speed
Emulation too fast?
Set the emulator to use the 8086 CPU configuration
Experiencing graphic or animation glitches?
Set the emulator to use VGA only graphics configuration
Need to turn off the audio?
Disable sound card support

Have no audio?
  1. Try SoundBlaster 1.0 hardware
  2. Try Covox Sound Master hardware
  3. The song or audio file maybe missing from the program
  4. Audio may not be supported
Unlike other systems of the era, audio for DOS was unfortunately complicated for both programmers and end users alike. A lot of early scene software didn't bother including it. While those that did often didn't test it on all the hardware they supposedly supported.

Want to hack around in the DOS prompt?
  1. Mount the DOS tools drive with automatic run program turned off
  2. Then dir u: to list the utilities, some included programs 4dos.com cp.exe acidview.exe pictview.exe

  4. Learn the DOSBox commands

DOSee pronounced dos/see, is our emulator used to run MS-DOS based software in your web browser.

MS-DOS (Microsoft DOS) was the primary operating system used by PCs during the 1980s to the early 1990s and is the precursor to Microsoft Windows.

DOSee is a slimmed down, modified port of The Emularity.

The Emularity is a multi-platform JavaScript emulator that supports the running of software for legacy computer platforms in a web browser. It is the same platform that's running emulation on the Internet Archive.

EM-DOSBox is a high-performance JavaScript port of DOSBox that is applied by The Emularity for its emulation of the MS-DOS platform.

DOSee uses BrowserFS ZipFS and ZipFS Extras to simulate zip file archives as hard disks within EM-DOSBox.

DOSBox is the most popular MS-DOS emulator in use today and is frequently used by commercial game publishers to run games from their back-catalogues on modern computers.

Infinity Diskmag Issue #5 Information Text File

Thank you for downloading Infinity Diskmag. If you downloaded the
Promotional Issue of Infinity, then you'll be amazed at all the changes
that we've done since the Promotional Issue. If you were not able to see
the Promotional Issue of Infinity, sorry but we've stuck to the same video
mode for this issue. Infinity is still 640x480x256c unfortunately, we are
planning for next issue to lower the resolution to 640x400x256c which is a
standard VGA mode, that way more people can enjoy Infinity.

The release of Infinity Issue #5 was delayed quite a bit, mainly because
of school. Infinity took many months of preparation, and I hope you enjoy
it as much as we enjoyed making it. In this issue, we've got some great
articles, interviews, the first compilation of The Charts, and a great new
   interface.

We plan to keep the Infinity Crew small, only couriers are considered part
of the Infinity Crew besides Violator and myself. Currently, we're
looking for more couriers to help us spread Infinity.

We're planning to release Issue #6 very soon, around Christmas time. With
the Christmas holidays we'll find ourselves with more time to work on
Infinity. The Christmas Issue will review the scene in '93, and welcome
the new year of '94. Unfortunately this issue, we were planning more
articles, but we were lacking enough writers and votes. Please take the
time to fill out the voting form, and perhaps write an article for
Infinity. We can't release this diskmag without support from our readers.
Voting is a simple process, just use a text editor and fill out the
   voting form.

There is some new things planned for next issue. First of all, new voting
topics have been added to the updated voting form. If you voted for the
old charts and wish to update your votes, you can do so by filling out
the new voting form, included with this issue. Another new feature we're
implementing for next issue is a message section. The message section
will be published in Infinity, a small space of 5 lines is available at
the end of the voting form. The purpose of the message section is to
allow our readers to send messages, announcements, or advertisements to
be published in Infinity. The messages are free and anyone is welcome
to send us your message. Whether it be an announcement of a new group,
or a classified ad for hardware, it'll be published in that column. Read
the end of the voting form for further details. It's the best way to
get a message across to a large audience.

We'd like to here from our readers, so if you have any comments,
suggestions, or questions for the Infinity Crew don't hesitate to ask us.
Special thanks to all those who helped with this issue.

   Eternal Darkness / Infinity Crew

Infinity Diskmag Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

Q: Why is this issue of Infinity Issue #5, where's Issue #1-4?
A: The first four issues of Infinity were published almost two years ago.
The project was halted, and only recently restarted. The only members
from the old Infinity Magazine are Violator and Eternal Darkness.

Q: How can I apply to Infinity?
A: You can only apply to Infinity as a distribution site or courier. There
is an application form included in this ZIP for being a distribution.
To apply as a courier, call Northern Sector.

Q: I want to write for Infinity, what should I do?
A: We are accepting articles from all freelance writers. So if you think
you've got an interesting article, then simply get it to an Infinity
member, or through any of the ways mentioned below.

Q: If I can't call long distance, where can I contact the Infinity Crew?
A: You can call your local Infinity site (if there is one), or you can
contact a member via Internet email or a message network such as
      Interpool or CyberCrime.

Q: What are the system requirements for Infinity Diskmag?
A: Infinity requires a SVGA Video Adaptor (will change next issue),
512k conventional memory, and a 386/486 is recommended.

Q: Why does my keyboard mess up when I'm in Infinity?
A: Keyboard utilities like Hyperkey(tm) will conflict with Infinity,
you should boot without it or disable the use of such utilities.

Q: Why doesn't Infinity work on my system?
A: If your computer has the requirements, and you're having trouble
running the magazine, try running under different boot-ups and
possibly try booting up 'clean'. If you are still having problems
please contact an Infinity member, and consult them with your
      problems as soon as possible.

Q: When is issue #6 going to be released?
A: As of current plans, issue #6 will be ready by Christmas. In order
to successfully meet this deadline, we would advise that all those
who are interested in writing to submit your articles, and all
voting forms to be submitted as soon as possible.

Q: How come it took an 'infinity' for Infinity to be released?
A: With school, work, and other activities the only real time we can work
on Infinity is on free time on weekends. The actual interface for this
diskmag was completely a lot earlier, unfortunately a lack of articles
      delayed the release.

Q: What are The Charts? Where can I find them?
A: The Charts are a compilation of the votes sent to use by our readers.
On the voting ballot, you fill out information on various topics, such
as best ANSI artist, best ANSI piece, best VGA artist, best movie, best
BBS software, etc. Updated charts will be published in each issue of
Infinity. For those who can't read Infinity, a separate text file
containing the charts results will be included with Infinity, or you
can find it on a Infinity support board.

Q: Where do I get an application form or voting form?
A: An application and voting form is included in this ZIP. You'll be able
to find an individual application or voting form on any Infinity
      support site.

Q: Will there be an ANSI version for people without SVGA?
A: No, there will not be an ANSI version. VGA/SVGA is the only way to go,
however we are planning on making the next issue 640x400x256c which is
a standard VGA mode. If you have VGA you'll be able to enjoy Infinity.

Q: Will there be music added to Infinity?
A: Not soon, we're too busy right now to add music to Infinity. If you
really want music, go play your a CD on your stereo system while
      reading Infinity. :)

Q: Will there ever be an ANSI/VGA BBS ads section in Infinity?
A: Nope, if you want to see BBS ads go look at the Acquisitions or
      iCEPACK. :)
