Emulating PATCHER.EXE in DOSee.

Use these tabs to make adjustments to the emulation

If the emulation is taking too long to load, you can turn it off.

Reload DOSee to launch the DOS prompt

Applying changes will reload the page and reboot the emulator

Changes are not applied until the browser tab is reloaded

DOS programs need a keyboard for user input
Some common keys used in DOS programs

ENTER to select or continue
ESC to navigate back or exit
are often used to navigate menus

Emulation too slow?
Set the emulator to use maximum CPU speed

Emulation too fast?
Set the emulator to use the 8086 CPU configuration

Need to turn off the audio?
Disable sound card support

Have no audio?
  1. Try SoundBlaster 1.0 hardware
  2. Try Covox Sound Master hardware
  3. The song or audio file maybe missing from the program
  4. Audio may not be supported
Unlike other systems of the era, audio for DOS was unfortunately complicated for both programmers and end users alike. A lot of early scene software didn't bother including it. While those that did often didn't test it on all the hardware they supposedly supported.

DOSee pronounced dos/see, is our emulator used to run MS-DOS based software in your web browser.

MS-DOS (Microsoft DOS) was the primary operating system used by PCs during the 1980s to the early 1990s and is the precursor to Microsoft Windows.

DOSee is a slimmed down, modified port of The Emularity.

The Emularity is a multi-platform JavaScript emulator that supports the running of software for legacy computer platforms in a web browser. It is the same platform that's running emulation on the Internet Archive.

EM-DOSBox is a discontinued, high-performance JavaScript port of DOSBox that is applied by The Emularity for its emulation of the MS-DOS platform.

DOSee uses BrowserFS ZipFS and ZipFS Extras to simulate zip file archives as hard disks within EM-DOSBox.

DOSBox is the most popular MS-DOS emulator in use today and is frequently used by commercial game publishers to run games from their back-catalogues on modern computers.

The Patcher - Version 4.0 Copyright (c) 1991 Michael Caldwell PUBLIC DOMAIN The following is a list of filenames, dates, and sizes. The filenames are the files necessary to unprotect their corresponding programs, if more than one file from the same title must be unprotected, then they must all be in the same directory. The date and size are there for you to compare with the size and date of your version of the program. ┌───────────────────────────┬───────────────┬────────┬──────┬──────────────┐ │Program Title │Publisher │Date │Size │Protected File│ ├───────────────────────────┼───────────────┼────────┼──────┼──────────────┤ │2400AD │Origin Systems │09-23-88│ 26496│2400AD.EXE │ │4 x 4 Off Road Racing │Epyx │07-25-88│ 24540│FRONT.EXE │ │Ancient Art of War │Broderbund │03-20-85│ 99840│WAR.EXE │ │Ancient Art of War at Sea │Broderbund │07-10-87│162304│WAS.EXE │ │Auto Duel │Origin Systems │07-25-88│ 47344│AUTODUEL.EXE │ │Bad Street Brawler │Mindscape │??-??-??│ 45529│BR.EXE │ │Battle Chess │Interplay │02-23-89│ 83415│CHESS.EXE │ │Battle Hawks 1942 │Lucasfilm Games│10-06-88│148055│BH.EXE │ │Battle of Britain │Lucasfilm Games│10-02-89│220135│BOB.EXE │ │Bop 'N Wrestle │Mindscape │12-12-86│ 48880│BOP.EXE │ │California Games │Epyx │02-24-88│ 63467│CALGAMES.EXE │ │Centurion: Defender of Rome│Electronic Arts│05-29-90│ 96272│OVL0.OVL │ │Champions of Krynn │SSI │12-22-89│ 74080│START.EXE │ │Curse of the Azure Bonds │SSI │06-21-89│272218│GAME.OVR │ │Eye of the Beholder │SSI │02-20-91│264496│EOB.EXE │ │Gauntlet │Mindscape │01-22-88│ 17273│GINTRO.EXE and│ │ │ │01-22-88│ 33817│GPROG.EXE │ │Grand Prix Circuit (CGA) │Accolade │10-08-88│ 77497│GPCGA.EXE or │ │Grand Prix Circuit (TDY) │Accolade │10-08-88│ 77401│GPTDY.EXE or │ │Grand Prix Circuit (EGA) │Accolade │10-08-88│ 86855│GPEGA.EXE │ │Hardball II (CGA) │Accolade │10-13-89│167857│HB2CGA.EXE or │ │Hardball II (TDY) │Accolade │10-13-89│163627│HB2TDY.EXE or │ │Hardball II (EGA) │Accolade │10-13-89│170281│HB2EGA.EXE │ │John Madden Football │Electronic Arts│07-14-89│224736│MFB.EXE │ │Mean Streets │Access Software│10-16-89│122951│MS.EXE │ │MechWarrior │Activision │11-02-89│137871│MW_MAIN.EXE │ │Moebius │Origin Systems │??-??-??│ 47264│MOEBIUS.EXE │ │Pool of Radiance │SSI │12-12-88│ 47936│START.EXE │ │Populous │Electronic Arts│ - - │ 84959│POPULOUS.EXE │ │Secret of the Silver Blades│SSI │05-25-90│ 72369│START.EXE │ │Sim City v1.00 │Maxis │09-06-89│190879│SIMCITY.EXE │ │Sim City v1.02 │Maxis │10-05-89│191235│SIMCITY.EXE │ │Sim Earth v1.00 │Maxis │01-27-91│406346│SIMEARTH.EXE │ │Space Station Oblivion │Epyx │09-27-88│ 6765│OBLIVION.EXE │ │Test Drive (CGA) │Accolade │??-??-??│ 57472│TDCGA.EXE or │ │Test Drive (EGA) │Accolade │??-??-??│ 66517│TDEGA.EXE │ │Test Drive II (CGA) │Accolade │02-26-89│104149│TD2CGA.EXE or │ │Test Drive II (TDY) │Accolade │02-26-89│103905│TD2TDY.EXE or │ │Test Drive II (EGA) │Accolade │02-26-89│114421│TD2EGA.EXE │ │Test Drive III-The Passion │Accolade │10-04-90│137845│TD3.EXE │ │Thexder │Sierra On-Line │08-06-87│ 2892│THEXDER.COM │ │Times of Lore │Origin Systems │12-15-88│ 79664│LORE.EXE │ │Ultima I │Origin Systems │12-29-87│ 36880│ULTIMA.EXE │ │Ultima II │Origin Systems │02-08-89│ 37344│ULTIMAII.EXE │ │Ultima II │Sierra On-Line │ - - │ 35493│ULTIMAII.COM │ │Ultima III │Origin Systems │02-10-87│ 36692│ULTIMA.COM and│ │ │ │02-10-87│ 19572│BOOTUP.COM │ │Ultima IV │Origin Systems │??-??-??│??????│ULTIMA.EXE │ │Ultima V │Origin Systems │06-24-88│ 36576│ULTIMA.EXE │ │Vette │Accolade │07-20-89│247047│VETTE.EXE │ │Wargame Construction Set │SSI │ - - │109056│WCS.EXE │ │Wing Commander │Origin Systems │09-19-90│302384│WC.EXE │ └───────────────────────────┴───────────────┴────────┴──────┴──────────────┘ Lost the date of the original file. = ??-??-?? Date of the original file is irrelevant. = - - Lost the size of the original file. = ?????? The Patcher will give messages to let you know if it patched ok, the file size is different from that of the one which I originally unprotected, or if there was an error trying to patch. If the size is different it will attempt the patch anyway, but the unprotect is less likely to work. If there is an error, make sure that you are entering the correct path and that if there is more than one file to be patched, that all files are in the same directory. * I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY UNNATURAL EFFECTS THIS MAY CAUSE ON YOUR HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE. * DO NOT OVERWRITE YOUR ORIGINALS. WRITE PROTECT THE ORIGINAL DISK BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE AND UNPROTECT THE BACKUP. * THE PATCHER IS TO BE USED FOR ARCHIVAL/BACKUP PURPOSES ONLY NOT PIRACY! Note: The Patcher should now remove all signs of copy protection from every game, if this is not the case please let me know. Note: Many of the patches have been revised (particularly for Origin) because of incompatibility on certain computers. Please try the new ones, if you've experienced problems before. Note to mouse users: The left mouse button is the only that is used. Clicking the mouse button on "ESC" quits, and clicking on the input line is equivalent to pressing "Enter". If you have any information as to whether these unprotects do or don't work on other versions of the same software title, or if you can help me with any of the '?'s above, please send me a note either to my address or the following BBS. Please tell me anything you can about the version number and the sizes and dates of the files.
