DOSee pronounced dos/see, is our emulator used to run MS-DOS based software in your web browser.

MS-DOS (Microsoft DOS) was the primary operating system used by PCs during the 1980s to the early 1990s and is the precursor to Microsoft Windows.

DOSee is a slimmed down, modified port of The Emularity.

The Emularity is a multi-platform JavaScript emulator that supports the running of software for legacy computer platforms in a web browser. It is the same platform that's running emulation on the Internet Archive.

EM-DOSBox is a discontinued, high-performance JavaScript port of DOSBox that is applied by The Emularity for its emulation of the MS-DOS platform.

DOSee uses BrowserFS ZipFS and ZipFS Extras to simulate zip file archives as hard disks within EM-DOSBox.

DOSBox is the most popular MS-DOS emulator in use today and is frequently used by commercial game publishers to run games from their back-catalogues on modern computers.

=============================================================================== Microprose's PIRATES -- 'BUSTED' 08/18/1989 by THE FiRM =============================================================================== PIRATES has been out for a while in it's floppy-only form, but it seems everyone has had a lot of trouble getting it converted to a hard-disk version, so it was suggested that The FiRM have a go at it... The copy-protection scheme in this game did prove to be quite a challenge, but even with it removed there remained the problem of saving games, so we also created the PIRATES.SAV file to handle this as well... Anytime you want to save a game, just ignore the references to floppy-drives and it will be saved inside this file for you automatically... In addition to converting the game to a file-type system so it could be located on any hard/ram/floppy disk large enough to handle it, we also modified the doc-check so ANY month/early/late combination-answer is now accepted as a correct response... (In the 'start a new career' mode you may still have to do a little swordplay related to an 'unprofitable' voyage, but this matches 100% with the original (unmodified) version of the game even when a correct answer was given. If you don't wish to engage to enemy captain, you can simply retreat by moving off the screen to the right at this point, but it's good practice for later (more dificult) challenges...) We also added a 'drop-to-dos' feature, so the key combination <CTRL>-<Q> will immediately return you to DOS at any time during play, as will the normal 'divide the plunder' exit routine... ************************************************************************* * -------------------- S P E C I A L N O T E --------------------- * * Over the past few months there have been a few harsh words floating * * around between cracker groups, and I wish to apologize to all the * * users-at-large for our part in it... Hopefully it's over and all * * groups will now co-exist in harmony and fellowship... Best wishes * * to all and a special thanks to Lord Ironwolfe and all those who * * submitted designs for FiRMLOADER startup-screens... While the one * * included in this release is of my own design, look for others in * * upcomming FiRM releases... * ************************************************************************* I hope you enjoy this and all cracks released by The FiRM, as we always do *our* best to bring you *the* best...
