DOS programs need a keyboard for user input
Some common keys used in DOS programs

ENTER to select or continue
ESC to navigate back or exit
are often used to navigate menus

Emulation too slow?
Set the emulator to use maximum CPU speed

Emulation too fast?
Set the emulator to use the 8086 CPU configuration

Experiencing graphic or animation glitches?
Set the emulator to use VGA only graphics configuration

Need to turn off the audio?
Disable sound card support

Have no audio?
  1. Try SoundBlaster 1.0 hardware
  2. Try Covox Sound Master hardware
  3. The song or audio file maybe missing from the program
  4. Audio may not be supported
Unlike other systems of the era, audio for DOS was unfortunately complicated for both programmers and end users alike. A lot of early scene software didn't bother including it. While those that did often didn't test it on all the hardware they supposedly supported.

DOSee pronounced dos/see, is our emulator used to run MS-DOS based software in your web browser.

MS-DOS (Microsoft DOS) was the primary operating system used by PCs during the 1980s to the early 1990s and is the precursor to Microsoft Windows.

DOSee is a slimmed down, modified port of The Emularity.

The Emularity is a multi-platform JavaScript emulator that supports the running of software for legacy computer platforms in a web browser. It is the same platform that's running emulation on the Internet Archive.

EM-DOSBox is a discontinued, high-performance JavaScript port of DOSBox that is applied by The Emularity for its emulation of the MS-DOS platform.

DOSee uses BrowserFS ZipFS and ZipFS Extras to simulate zip file archives as hard disks within EM-DOSBox.

DOSBox is the most popular MS-DOS emulator in use today and is frequently used by commercial game publishers to run games from their back-catalogues on modern computers.

Welcome to LTD's /┤NSi Pack for December 1993, "The Christmas Batch".. This pack makes up for the lack of a November pack due to many circumstances beyond our control. Our World HeadQuarters suffered a massive HD failure and the board was lost in it's entirety. Me being the great guy I am, I gave the SysOp my backups from my old board, /┤lternate Reality. So the WHQ is back up and running as /┤lternate Reality now. If you had an account on the WHQ, you need to call and logon as new again if you haven't done so already. I'm resigning as President of LTD because of a lack of time/patience so if anyone is interested in Senior Staff or something, contact me.. I'll hold the group together as best I can till someone else can take over. I'm also incorporating a new attitude into the group which hasn't been tried before to my knowledge. There will be no defined artists.. If you draw an ANSi and submit it to us, and we put it in the pack, you're drawing for LTD. There's no pressure on anyone either. There will be NO member list, so if you want your name to shine, you better do some work to stand out. There will be NO official distribution sites. If you wish to support us by having a file section for us or whatever, more power to you. But we had over 80 distros and things were just a mess, so something had to be done. I think this is fair for everyone. You want to be a courier, you courier. Besides LUPUS, we really don't have any couriers, again if you want to help out, go for it, get it up everywhere you can. Also, ALTERNET.EXE is included in this pack.. It's an application generator for a new network that was around awhile back when I was running a board. The net is known as /┤lterNet, and we're just getting things back up and running.. If you wish to join, run the app generator and send up the results to us. Very few boards carry the net right now, but we still have about 50 messages a week per base. We're accepting new boards, so fill out the application and get it to us ASAP. As I said in the last pack, you're not going to see much ansi from me anymore.. I have school as my highest priority now, so I just run the group, I don't draw for now.. This pack has ALOT of ANSi Screens from one of our new artists, Aerosol. We picked him up a few days after the release of our first pack, so he's been putting out quite a bit of work. We also have some more excellent work from our Canadian Artist, Forlorn Extender. Probably our most talented artist, but also the hardest to get ahold of, I think you'll be pleased with the work he submitted this month. We have alot of new coders in the group, all programming in various languages. Mr. Data is our resident assembly man, and you'll see his ANSi Viewer & Application Generator in the next pack. We also have quite a few other coders, and you'll see their progs in the pack as well. We've picked up a few trial artists as well, and you'll see some of their work in this pack. We have picked up a distribution site from Australia who is affiliated with Future Crew. We've circled the globe and are glad to see that our pack has reached so many people in such a short time. We also have a national couriering group now working with us to spread our pack even faster, LUPUS. We had some problems with couriers for our first pack, so hopefully this will not be a problem anymore. We're fortunate to have LUPUS with us. I'll also be sending the packs to some InterNet FTP sites, so if you have an account be sure to check for the packs on them. They'll probably be on ftp.uwp.edu and clam.rutgers.edu, as well as a few others. We are also looking for more artists as always.. We do requests for boards at a very reasonable rate, if you are interested in getting a request filled, contact an LTD member for more info. I can be reached on all of the LTD sites in New Jersey, as well as through /┤lterNet, Ultra Tech, or via the InterNet ([email protected]). For fastest reply, contact me either by InterNet, or on /┤lternate Reality. Shit, I tend to write books when I intend to write 10 lines.. :) Here comes the legal bullshit so I don't have to listen to every whining dude that has a problem with something in this pack. Everything in this pack is 100% original. Any similarities are purely coincidental. All imitations (ex. Pitt, etc) are copyrighted to their rightful creators. Any works can be altered slightly to fit your needs if you get the approval of the author first. "Your checkout period is 24 hours.." :-) Whatever, just don't give me any grief. Quote for the Month: "Will you hose me down with holy water if I get too Hot Hot!" --Meatloaf Greets: Boardmaster - Always make backups! Forlorn Extender - Good Luck With Gothic Mr. Data - You've got some talent :) Infinity/Eternal D. - Issue #5 kicked some ass! LUPUS Crew - Welcome aboard guys.. Raistlin [iCE] - Where's Iridium Issue #2? Shihear Kalizad - Fuck you lamer boy.. FusioN [ACiD] - Stop poisoning the local minds /┤CiD, iCE, etc. - We're here to stay, accept it :) (And of course, all the LTD members!) -No C/┤rrier [LTD/Iridium] [eoŸ] -12-01-93-
