Emulating FALCNR.EXE in DOSee.

Use these tabs to make adjustments to the emulation

If the emulation is taking too long to load, you can turn it off.

Reload DOSee to launch the DOS prompt

Applying changes will reload the page and reboot the emulator

Changes are not applied until the browser tab is reloaded

DOS programs need a keyboard for user input
Some common keys used in DOS programs

ENTER to select or continue
ESC to navigate back or exit
are often used to navigate menus

Emulation too slow?
Set the emulator to use maximum CPU speed

Emulation too fast?
Set the emulator to use the 8086 CPU configuration

Need to turn off the audio?
Disable sound card support

Have no audio?
  1. Try SoundBlaster 1.0 hardware
  2. Try Covox Sound Master hardware
  3. The song or audio file maybe missing from the program
  4. Audio may not be supported
Unlike other systems of the era, audio for DOS was unfortunately complicated for both programmers and end users alike. A lot of early scene software didn't bother including it. While those that did often didn't test it on all the hardware they supposedly supported.

DOSee pronounced dos/see, is our emulator used to run MS-DOS based software in your web browser.

MS-DOS (Microsoft DOS) was the primary operating system used by PCs during the 1980s to the early 1990s and is the precursor to Microsoft Windows.

DOSee is a slimmed down, modified port of The Emularity.

The Emularity is a multi-platform JavaScript emulator that supports the running of software for legacy computer platforms in a web browser. It is the same platform that's running emulation on the Internet Archive.

EM-DOSBox is a discontinued, high-performance JavaScript port of DOSBox that is applied by The Emularity for its emulation of the MS-DOS platform.

DOSee uses BrowserFS ZipFS and ZipFS Extras to simulate zip file archives as hard disks within EM-DOSBox.

DOSBox is the most popular MS-DOS emulator in use today and is frequently used by commercial game publishers to run games from their back-catalogues on modern computers.

FALCONER 1.0 DOCUMENTATION AND RELEASE NOTES by Rob "Orinoco" Heittman, Member Expert/Air Combat 72700,1067 Compuserve Flight Simulation Forum (GO FSFORUM) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- FALCONER is a program which allows you to edit Falcon 3.0 squadron files. You can easily change the names, call signs, ability scores, and fatigue scores for your pilots, as well as "unfatigue" an entire squadron with a single menu action. FALCONER uses a basically CUA-compliant interface which I don't need to explain in depth here. A brief overview: Press ALT plus the highlighted letter to reach a menu. Use the arrow keys or additional highlighted letters to activate a menu option. In editing mode, you may use the arrow keys to highlight an attribute you want to edit, then press ENTER to change the value of that attribute. You may not enter values outside the normal range (0-100 or text, depending on the field.) To start editing a file, you need to select it using File Open from the main menu. You will be given a list of active squadrons, their commanders, and their numbers. Choose a squadron number. Its roster will appear on the screen. You may not load an inactive squadron. To unfatigue the squadron (change all fatigue scores to 100), you can select Edit Unfatigue All from the main menu. To edit particular attributes, select Edit Pilot Abilities from the main menu and follow the instructions above. Press ESC to get out of edit mode. When finished, select File Save from the main menu. The squadron file will be saved and you can either load another squadron, continue editing, or choose File Exit from the menu to leave FALCONER. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION This program tampers with Falcon 3.0 .SQU files in an unauthorized manner. I have used it extensively without causing any problems. However, I cannot _guarantee_ that it will not damage your .SQU files or cause Falcon 3.0 to behave erratically. You MUST back up all SQUAD?.* files before using this program if you want to have insurance against a possible failure. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RELEASE NOTES This is Release 1. It embodies the most useful editing functions I could think of. I am planning a Release 2 which will allow: - pilots to be exported individually to disk - ...and of course imported from disk as well! - printouts of pilots by ability score rank - editing of more attributes - better documentation - this is pretty lame However, I got it to this point, where it works and is as bug-free as I can get it, and thought I should release it to you now. God only knows how long it will take me to get Release 2 out, right? :) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- God speed and check six, - O
