Since i'm a crazy group hopper..:) well, this all started out when i was uhm, helping my friend weektop on a few BBS'. His nick was MrMayhem and he was in a few groups. Only one i really remember was Generation-X. Anyways, he introduced me to the fantastic world of piracy. It all started out with me downloading games and useful utils. While calling BBS' I logged onto one called DDLL (darkness of Dark, Light of Light). This was sysoped by a Thrawn. Who I became good friends with & cosysoped. He then later joined DOD (in '94) and well, that's when I really got exposed to everything. Uhm, we worked as a team and he supplied some warez etc. Later on, I met up with a Leviathan, real cool guy, he helped me setup my BBS. It was called Unreal Ecstacy (UXTC) and i got it affiled with some groups like TDT/MTY/RTN . (TDT was like almost dead tho) -[CwS Interviewer]: Awesome so this was in 95'. What was your BBS as far as size & speed? (this question always opens the doors for ex sysops, what him chat =)) -[vln-gimp]: My bbs started out as a 1 node 14.4 but later it upgraded to 3 nodes, 28.8 before i killed it uhm..started out with 500+ megs and i upgraded to 2.1gigs after had some pretty good Cosysops too (tho they didn't do much) uhm, their nicks were Shatter Star and Gremlin .. both risc peeps. The people who know me know i get bored of stuff quick. ;) so well, i pretty much took down the bbs and stopped everything (besides, my grades were slipping =) ). It turns out tho, while i was concentrating on my studies, I stumbled upon this idiot who was talking about BBS' and down- loading games :). so, I introduced myself and told him more about the scene and how it worked. etc.. I remember telling him what those weird abbreviations were and why they showed up on the filenames :) his nick is Bud. Maybe u guys know him :) Anyways, he decided to form a group called SMW (sonic mind warp). He asked to help him, because i knew a bit about the scene. Tho, I've been in groups, I never dealt with releasing, i just sysoped for my groups, I agreed to help. So we started ( was in 96 or 97) it started off REAL slow :) we knew some friends who worked at computer stores and stuff. But we weren't real keen on things :) anyways, we decided to expand so i got some older friends like Blackened to help out. He did naturally, (very little tho). uhm..We got banned on some sites too. Meanwhile, I was talking to UncleJohn (I knew him prior) and he was thinking about bringing corp back. lol.neways, he did and Bud and I helped out. He dissapeared tho, so we decided to Merge with Shock. There me and bud and a few others got leadership.. then, I got bored and retired again (everybody does) and well, i came back with Slice asking me to help him with Rise..so I did, and he made me council. I then retired AGAIN! (yes!) & well. It took me a while to come back :) uhm, a good friend (Stix, hey there buddy) called me up one sunday morning and asked me to help him out with Amnesia. We had some real cool peeps in my other group (glen, biohazard, siggie) etc.. so we merged in. It's been the same since i was around. That's because uhm..Groups like RTS were official couriers for PWA so their couriers were in PWA and the releases were usually pre-tagged. and Risc couriers were in DOD and Razor. so their couriers would get the megs. Always been that way :) -[CwS Interviewer]: So basically Pre ( or a courier grp or courier owning the releases ) has always been a part of the scene. Why all the ruckus now then? -[vln-gimp]: Well, a lot of people get frustrated now. I mean, before the pre's only went to a few selected BBS' (3 or 4) and then they would spread around by others. But now with the technology we have, it was quite easy to cover 20 or more sites :) inaddition, we're finding some couriers who package and release their own stuff. That is, not the specialized groups. And uhm, usually these pre-whores win the weektops just by preing. :) -[CwS Interviewer]: Yes I can see where those points would bring up the current situation. Speaking of situations, why the seperation of euro & usa sites. Like, why are euro sites now considered so much better then the usa sites. Seems most of the releases originate from the usa? -[vln-gimp]: It does appear that way doesnt' it? Well, the only reason I can think of is that the links for the euro sites are less congested than the us ones. Therefore u would get quicker speeds.. and it requires a lot more resources to get a euroshell .. than say a us one. GRIMACE!!And by fuck, he weektopped 14 sites that I could see. DAMN IMPRESSIVE with not having ANY rls groups affils) Nail also place in the top 10 at #9 alongside with biohazard at #11 (GRATZ TKW!!!!!!!), with chill(#14) being the only other trader in the top 25.. Now if nail returns to his 'we know you are kick ass so just do it' form, virus & nail will own the scene. Theres an incentive, go for it guys! Great week for for the team rating but I wanna see more AMN names out there :) Rating: (a nailed Viruii'ed 8/10) ANGELS ON DRUGS (AOD): Still at #1 guys. Seems they still own with the likes of virus, nail, djmp3 (damn good showing, but more of him later) in opposition groups. But it does help when you have pre's from other groups on your shell before other traders start to trade (yes, Ive seen evidence, no whinging). But A fine effort to keep #1 with sax and cedric (rise ol' cedric) making it at #1 & #2. Cahor (say no more) at #4, darkwolf at #6, faith at #7 to dominate the top 10 list!!! Vulcan popped in at #13,moonsabre(#16),bohnz at #17 (gee, do AOD ppl need their hand held or something? most traders being nice and cosy next to each other in the list) with mimoz stopping in for a short coffee at #23. As I say everyweek, grats at #1. Same ol' story :) and yeah, GRATS TO SAX AND CEDRIC FOR MAKING THE TOP 2! Rating: (A very early 9/10) DEVOTiON (DEV): Dropped from #3 last week to #4 this week because of djmp3's effort! Ceric came in at #7 being the only DEV trader in the top 10 (sad :( ).. Sj in turn decided to be the only trader in the rest of the top 25 list placing at #12. 2 traders in the top 25 and still placing in top 5 groups. At least thats something :)....Get more traders happenign guys or point a gun to godbless's head to make him trade! 'enuff said Rating: (A split between 2 5/10) RiSE iN SUPERiOR COURiERiNG (RiSC): A poor week guys from a team with a few known GOOD traders! To marks to thraxis for making it at at #10, with only brain (#20) and primal (at a very anal loving #23) making it in the top 25. I do know personally some guys have been on holiday, so this is their reason RiSC dont have as many names in the top list. Just hoping they can keep trading good and stay in the list or get back to the top #4 position that they have been keeping lately.
