The V8 DGN file permits MicroStation and applications to add more intelligence to the models that users create. The expanded data constructs improve the robustness of MicroStation, Bentley's Engineering Configurations and applications that run with MicroStation. MicroStation V8 also provides a tremendous advancement in interoperability by allowing direct access to DWG files -- without requiring translation.
