UNPROTECTION SCHEME FOR MOST MINDSCAPE SOFTWARE
Release 1.00 - February 25, 1988
unprotect program created by Sam Brown of the Byte Bandits
realization, document, and redistribution by Bushido the Warrior

INTRODUCTION
I was looking through a special bulletin board system, when I noticed
a MindScape program on the directory list. Curious, I downloaded it. I
realized that this program was "cracked" by Sam Brown, an acquaintance
of mine. The protection scheme he went crazy over to break finally came
out to be small COM file, of about only 1k! I examined this program,
and thought... "Could this little program work on other MindScape games
I've BOUGHT?" So, I began my 10-minute investigation.
THE PROGRAM
This program is a small memory-resident program that allows most of the
MindScape software to be played without the "key disk" or "installed"
fixed drives. It makes the program believe it had picked up the weak
bits on the disk (the protection scheme), so you can play.
THE PROCESS
First, copy the files of the game to a blank disk, hard drive, virtual
disk, or what have you.
Next, to activate it, type "WEAKBIT" at the DOS prompt, and hit ENTER,
obviously. Run this program ONLY once. I haven't seen what would
happen if you ran it more than once, but I wouldn't like to know, and I
hope that feeling would be the same with you. I suppose it modifies the
INTerrupt 13, a disk interrupt. From there, load up the game. Voila.
It should load. If not, reboot and verify your steps. If problems still
persist, either: MindScape has changed its software protection scheme,
you are running an old version of the MindScape program, which has an
older protection scheme, or it isn't a MindScape program!
I suggest a reboot after you have finished playing. Returning to DOS
on my computer usually ends up with a "system hang." It might be my
system or its loaded TSRs, but you're never too sure.
THE TESTED PROGRAMS
This program has been tested on the following games:
Bop'n Wrestle Into the Eagle's Nest
Infiltrator Gauntlet
Infiltrator II SuperStar Indoor Sports
The program WEAKBIT.COM should be 1536 bytes long. Just to be on the safe
side, you know many demented programmers change software around to be very
hazardous to one's system. Check the program for disk writes, which there
should be NONE, or write-protect your drives with Lightning, or the PC
Magazine's HARDLOCK.COM (is that it?). But, I can assure you from here, the
program is as good as gold.
