The software synthesizes the sound from "vocal libraries" of recordings of actual singers, retaining the vocal qualities of the original singing voices to reproduce realistic vocals. The software also features simple commands that enable users to add expressive effects - such as vibrato and pitch bends - to their synthesized vocals. Additional releases to the range of vocal libraries currently available will broaden the range of voices and singing styles that can generated by VOCALOID. At the moment, VOCALOID can generate singing in Japanese and English. Other languages are also planned for the future. VOCALOID software runs on Windows 2000/XP. A MacOS version is planned for the future. Yamaha has already agreed on the license agreement for VOCALOID library production and software sales with a number of soundware developers around the world. These licensees will release "Vocaloid Singer Libraries", which includes the VOCALOID software. Yamaha is not currently planning to sell the actual VOCALOID software engine as a dedicated product. "Vocal libraries" will be launched onto the market as the products of various soundware developers. Following problems in VOCALOID 1.0.1 are solved in 1.0.2: - You cannot run VOCALOID Editor if you are in PowerUser mode. Once you try to run VOCALOID Editor in Power User mode, you cannot run it even in Administrator mode. - If you activate VOCALOID using a modem, you cannot use VOCALOID if the modem is not connected. Following problems in VOCALOID 1.0.0 are solved in 1.0.1: - If you type lyrics including a comma or semicolon and save the sequence, and open it again, the system crashes. - If you change control parameters (such as "brightness", "pitch bend", etc.) while playing in "play with synthesis" mode, the system sometimes crashes. - If you increase the number of pre-measures while playing in "play with synthesis" mode and as a result if you have notes in the new pre-measure zone, the notes are played. - If you minimize the Mixer window and press the mouse in the piano-roll region for a while, the background is displayed in the Mixer region. - When you play tracks with different lengths in "play with synthesis" mode, sometimes it stops playing at the end of the shorter track. - If you disable "triplet" or "dot" in the pop-up menu by right-clicking on the piano roll, the triplet/dot button in the toolbar is not turned off (actually the triplet/dot mode is turned off). - Control parameters cannot be "cut-and-pasted".(They can be "copy-and-pasted".) - When you select [Line] in inputting a control parameter, draw a line by draging twards the beginning and dropping at the very begining (or outside the window), the break points are plotted until the maximum measure. - When "Triplets" are ON, sometimes notes cannot be moved correctly. - When you select a note and delete it, the pointer remains "finger". - When you play in "play with synthesis" mode a track that has a singer change in the pre-measure zone, the change is sometimes not effective after you jump somewhere in the pre-measure zone. - When you move the singer icon (singer chenage event) to a position before the pre-measure, it is not merged with the singer icon at the beginning. - In the icon palette, dackground color in horizontal scroll bar is different from the color in vertical scroll bar. - If two or more LAN cards are installed on the PC, the software sometimes cannot be launched. - When you uninstall the VOCALOID Editor first, you cannot uninstall the VOICE libraries. New functionalities/specifications: - Icon palette is displayed by default. - Song position can be moved by clicking the top of the piano roll. Known Problems - When you add a new voice in the VOICE Editor and play a sequence using the voice, the voice is not used in synthesis. You need to restart the software. - In the VOICE Editor, even if you press [cancel], a singer change is added in the sequence. - When you play tracks with different lengths in "play with synthesis" mode, sometimes it stops playing during the playback and if you try to play it again, it never starts again. - Pressing repeatedly [>>](FWD) sometimes moves the position to the begininng. [|<](TOP) and [>|](END) buttons sometimes do not work. - When you press a button in the toolbar and moves the pointer outside the button (with pressing the mouse button), only the display of "ON"/"OFF" is switched (actually it is not switched). - Two or more voices cannot be synthesized using the VSTInstrument. - After the sequence is left playing and kept looping in "play with synthesis" mode for about 45 minutes, "play" function does not work. This happens very rarely. - While playing in "play with synthesis" mode, if the "End" marker is moved close to the "Start" marker, the system does not respond. - In "play with synthesis" mode, when you click the "play" button and keep the pointer's position, the pointer remains a "sandglass" after the synthesis is done. - When you minimize the width of the Mixer window, the system crashes if you double-click the window. - After you play a sequence using ReWire, make a new sequence and press "play" button, the old sequence is played. - "Comments" of expression icons are wrong. Icon names in the icon property dialog are wrong. Icon names and comments in the icon property dialog are truncated. - If you change a position of a syllable in a note, shorten the length of the note, save the sequence and open it again, the syllable has wrong lyrics and it is not pronounced in synthesis. - If you delete a track connected to ReWire, and perform "undo" and "redo", the deleted track is played by ReWire. - If you set breakpoints of Depth/Rate of a vibrato icon , save the sequence and open it again, the last breakpoint is sometimes deleted. - While a sequence is being played, if you play the transport shortcut key with another key, it is not stopped playing. While it is stopped, if you play the transport shortcut key with another key, the editor does not start playing. - If you repeat Play/Stop many times on a sequence with a lot of tracks on a ReWire host, sometimes VOCALOID Editor crashes. - If you change the voice parameters in SingerEditor and press [Add New Voice] to add the voice, the new parameters are not effective. - If you open a VOCALOID midi file by drag-and-dropping and play it by "Play With Synthesis" mode, the menu area becomes "white".
