Some common keys used in DOS programs

ENTER to select or continue
ESC to navigate back or exit
are often used to navigate menus

Emulation too slow?
Set the emulator to use maximum CPU speed

Emulation too fast?
Set the emulator to use the 8086 CPU configuration

Need to turn off the audio?
Disable sound card support

Have no audio?
  1. Try SoundBlaster 1.0 hardware
  2. Try Covox Sound Master hardware
  3. The song or audio file maybe missing from the program
  4. Audio may not be supported
Unlike other systems of the era, audio for DOS was unfortunately complicated for both programmers and end users alike. A lot of early scene software didn't bother including it. While those that did often didn't test it on all the hardware they supposedly supported.

DOSee pronounced dos/see, is our emulator used to run MS-DOS based software in your web browser.

MS-DOS (Microsoft DOS) was the primary operating system used by PCs during the 1980s to the early 1990s and is the precursor to Microsoft Windows.

DOSee is a slimmed down, modified port of The Emularity.

The Emularity is a multi-platform JavaScript emulator that supports the running of software for legacy computer platforms in a web browser. It is the same platform that's running emulation on the Internet Archive.

EM-DOSBox is a discontinued, high-performance JavaScript port of DOSBox that is applied by The Emularity for its emulation of the MS-DOS platform.

DOSee uses BrowserFS ZipFS and ZipFS Extras to simulate zip file archives as hard disks within EM-DOSBox.

DOSBox is the most popular MS-DOS emulator in use today and is frequently used by commercial game publishers to run games from their back-catalogues on modern computers.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cheat Batch File Creator Documentation - Feb. 9th, 1990 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, this version fixes a minor bug in the previous v.2.0. The minor bug happens to any cheat file that took more than the forty bytes alloted per cheat string. I won't go into details, but it is a fixed bug. I'm now part of PSI. For clarification, this revised editor will be a PSI release. Any new cheats can be added to v2.0 or v2.01. However, I do recommend this version because of the fixed bug. In any case, I added a bunch of new stuff in EDITOR.DAT which you may or may not have gotten. They are: Ajax - CGA/EGA/TGA Human Killing Machine Avoid the Noid Bubble Bobble (Humble Guys release) Xenon II Rambo III (I forgot to put it in v2.0. It's a stand-alone file) Also, there have been complaints about Cabal and Tongue of the Fatman not working. If anyone has used this editor to cheat in either game and found it to work, please tell me. Have fun! - Rescue Raider - PSI ------------------------ History of Editor -------------------------- January 15th, 1990 Due to memory restraints on the window maker program, I had to put all the cheat data directly to the data segment. If anyone can get me a similar window maker program with a large library, tell me. Ok, cheats are now in a separate file called "EDITOR.DAT". The data are loaded and alphabetically sorted upon startup. All the commands are the same as the previous cheat editors version except for the "Add data to file" command. This command appends a new cheat file to EDITOR.DAT. By doing this, you won't need to get another cheat version for the additional cheats. I will just upload the new cheats in "*.DAT" format and you can just append them to EDITOR.DAT. Of course, with all the little 300 byte *.DAT files floating around, you may miss one. In this case, I'll update the cheat editor with all the cheats since the last editor release. This will be released every three months. Around the end of this year, the cheat files will fill up to 98 cheats. This is the maximum amount that the editor will allow. A new cheat editor will be released that can hold hundreds of cheats (I'll send in my registration and license fees to buy the large library). Included with this editor are individual cheat files. Just unzip them and run the cheat batch file. These files didn't conform to the cheat editor format, so I left them as independent batch files. As you may notice, some games require a certain crack. This was not because of me, but the cracking group changed the filename. Since I only get one version of a game, I stick to whatever filenames are on there. If you know the original name, change the filename to the one the batch file will edit and then change it back after it edits the file. You may notice that an invulnerability option is included in the Robocop cheat. Well this means nothing can kill Robocop. Yippee! Robocop is impervious to anything the bad guys have. You can even withstand the new weapon blast and being crushed by the car crusher. Rescue Raider - Member API Jan 15th, 1990 - Version 2.00 - ?? cheats New individual files added: Budokan - Karate, kendo, bo, nunchaku fighting game If It Moves, Shoot it! - Great EGA panning graphics Victory Road - like the arcade, not that great Miami Vice - still has a bug on the 2nd and 3rd static screens Superman - CGA only. After you get past a certain part of the game, it'll load from drive A. Change the batch file on the game. New cheat data files Qix - like the arcade Wibarm - Role-playing Thexder type game Batman - vs joker and penguin. Too hard. Cabal - like the arcade. Freezes after the end of the 3rd stage Alien Syndrome - Good shoot'em up game Xmen v2.0 - great arcade adventure Eye of Horus - don't worry if the men symbols decrease, just keep playing Tongue of the Fatman - invulnerable to any hits. Mach ]I[ - invulnerable to all enemies Dragon's Lair - infinite men Nov 17th, 1989 - Version 1.02 - 48 cheats Artura - Plays like Dark Castle Frightmare - cracked by CPC 2001. EGA only. Never Mind - great 3-d puzzle solving game. Robocop - based on the arcade and movie. Includes invulnerability mode ThunderBlade - FiRM crack. Action is too jumpy. Based on arcade game Wind Walker - Moebius ][. Invulnerable during combat. Oct 30th, 1989 - Version 1.01 - 42 cheats Two new cheats: Double Dragon ][ EGA and Rick Dangerous EGA Oct 24th, 1989 - Version 1.00 - 40 cheats Welcome to the Cheat Batch File Creator program. First off, why cheat? Well some reasons are 1) so that you can keep playing until you are good at it, 2) you want to see the ending to a game, 3) you don't ever want to start over and over, or 4) you can't play worth beans so you need all the help you can get. Whatever your reasons are, this program will ease your pain and grief. The purpose of this program is to let you edit a certain arcade game you may have. You are able to either cheat or restore the games listed on the select menu. There are many games listed ranging from very old to fairly new. As more arcade games are released, this program will be updated. The input commands are easy. The cursor bar is controlled by the up/down cursor keys on the keypad. Pressing the RETURN key executes the command highlighted by the cursor bar. If at any time you wish to go back to a previous menu, press the ESC key. To create a batch file, press RETURN at the SELECT A GAME prompt. You will see many arcade games listed. Scroll the window up or down to select your game. Press RETURN to enter the OPTIONS menu. You will then see more choices for that particular game. You MUST enter a valid file path directory so the program can verify that the game file exists. The format for this is as follows: X:\subdirname\ or X:\ (where X denotes the drive letter) You have to type in the last "\" too. If you have that file, you will not see an error message. The cheat options are yes/no toggles. The default is all cheats are turned on. Thus, if you provide a valid file path, you can go directly to the SAVE command and the you'll cheat in everything listed in the OPTIONS menu. You will also notice that the drive will be on. It will turn on when it tries to validate your file path, and save the batch file to disk. Even if you abort the OPTIONS menu, the batch file will still be created. Just don't run it when you exit the editor. Once the program creates a batch file, you will immediately exit the program. The file called "RUNCHEAT.BAT" will be created and can be executed anywhere. Type "RUNCHEAT" at the dos prompt and just sit back. You'll also notice that after the editing is finished, RUNCHEAT.BAT will delete itself. The THEXDER cheat is the only one exempt from this rule. The batch file created for this is a TRACE program. You must copy the runcheat.bat to the THEXDER directory and execute from there. Since it is a TRACE program, the game files are not saved. Type RUNCHEAT and watch the batch file trace through THEXDER as it edits the bytes after THEXDER unpacks itself. Well there you have it. It's not as fancy as an in-code cheat where you can press the "F7-10" keys to toggle the cheat on/off like FiRMHELP, but it gets the job done. Hello to all FiRM, INC, PSI, NYC, and any other newly formed groups along the way. Be EXCELLENT to each other and PARTY ON DUDES! - Rescue Raider
