DOS programs need a keyboard for user input
Some common keys used in DOS programs

ENTER to select or continue
ESC to navigate back or exit
are often used to navigate menus

Emulation too slow?
Set the emulator to use maximum CPU speed

Emulation too fast?
Set the emulator to use the 8086 CPU configuration

Experiencing graphic or animation glitches?
Set the emulator to use VGA only graphics configuration

Need to turn off the audio?
Disable sound card support

Have no audio?
  1. Try SoundBlaster 1.0 hardware
  2. Try Covox Sound Master hardware
  3. The song or audio file maybe missing from the program
  4. Audio may not be supported
Unlike other systems of the era, audio for DOS was unfortunately complicated for both programmers and end users alike. A lot of early scene software didn't bother including it. While those that did often didn't test it on all the hardware they supposedly supported.

DOSee pronounced dos/see, is our emulator used to run MS-DOS based software in your web browser.

MS-DOS (Microsoft DOS) was the primary operating system used by PCs during the 1980s to the early 1990s and is the precursor to Microsoft Windows.

DOSee is a slimmed down, modified port of The Emularity.

The Emularity is a multi-platform JavaScript emulator that supports the running of software for legacy computer platforms in a web browser. It is the same platform that's running emulation on the Internet Archive.

EM-DOSBox is a discontinued, high-performance JavaScript port of DOSBox that is applied by The Emularity for its emulation of the MS-DOS platform.

DOSee uses BrowserFS ZipFS and ZipFS Extras to simulate zip file archives as hard disks within EM-DOSBox.

DOSBox is the most popular MS-DOS emulator in use today and is frequently used by commercial game publishers to run games from their back-catalogues on modern computers.

┌──────────────────────────┐ │ How to Hack Renegade │ │ (And How to Prevent It!) │ └──────────────────────────┘ Ok.. here is how you can Hack Renegade.... First, go into the Archive Menu. This is usually /A from the File Menu. Type "T" to test archives... if they have their path like: C:\UPLOADS\CRAP Then you will simply have to guess. Try these paths: C:\BBS C:\RENEGADE C:\RENE C:\REN C:\RG C:\BBS2 C:\BBS3 C:\SYSTEM C:\WINDOWS (I called a BBS once with that one!) Also, try those with drive D! If THAT doesn't work, try downloading AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS, it might be in there. If the run FrontDoor, try downloading C:\FD\EXEBBS.BAT, etc... Then type "X" for Extract Archive. EXAMPLE: C:\RENEGADE\RENEGADE.DAT C:\RENEGADE\DATA\USERS.DAT It will tell you that these are not valid archive types, and do you want to copy them? Yes, copy them to the temp dir. After you have copied the, type "W" for Work On Temp. Type D to download the files, and then hang up. Look at these 2 files. RENEGADE.DAT will tell you the system password, it will be something that couldn't be anything other then a password.. something like "LAURA" or "SEX" or something... Also, the password will be in all caps. Anyway, after you have looked in their for the system password, look in USERS.DAT. This will have a password also, something in all caps. Get this, and a phone number.. GOOD! Call back, and type in "1" for the Sysop's account, then type in the password. If it asks for the password, type it in. With Renegade, it will not ask for the system password until you have gotten the password and phone # right... Type this in.. Note that in Telegard, and some others, it will ask you the system password whether you get the rest correct or not. Ok.. once you are in, press * to go to the Sysop menu in Renegade (usually). type "D" to drop to MiniDOS (Usually!), and go into a directory called TRAP, or LOGS, or something to that effect. Then delete SYSOP.LOG, so they don't know what you have done.. Then, go into the DATA directory, and delete LASTON.DAT do that they don't know that you have logged on so many times. Then format their hard drive, or whatever.. SYSOPS! Here is how you can prevent this. Limit access to the archive menu to level 255! ┌─────────────────┐ │ - Quark - │ │ Nebula Systems │ │ 908-572-5952 │ │ Call After 11 │ └─────────────────┘
