┌─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐ │ │ │ TiE FiGHTeR TRaiNeR │ │ Author : David Jury │ │ (c) 1994 David Jury │ │ aka "Network" │ │ │ └─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘ THIS IS SHAREWARE! : This program is Shareware (didn't someone just say that?) and that means that it is Commercial Software that this Software Author (that's me) has slaved over in the kitchen for some time now and hopes to allow users like yourself (did I mention how WONDERFUL you are?) to TRY-OUT ,see what you think of it and then (quite hopefully) Register it because you enjoy it SO much (or very not hopefully) Get Rid of It because you think it is garbage. Shareware is based upon an honor system. This system works when programmers feel they can trust their captive audience of users and feel that they can release a full-featured working product out to the public in hopes that they will act responsibly and judge their work to be worthy enough to spend some hard earned dollars in support of what they do (or maybe not). This is what I ask of you.I would rather be able to give users help in games (or rather Enhancement) instantly rather than have a good user have wait a week or two for their Registration to get to me and for myself to get the Registered Trainer out to them.Another reason for my change of heart regarding this matter is the fact that my "real" world buisness has taken off recently and I am afraid I would not be able to give the full attention needed to take care of users quick enough in processing mail and sending out Registered Versions. So here it is : This Tie Fighter Trainer is yours to check out for one week.If you like what this program does for you and you think that it has enhanced your enjoyment of the game then please Register it.If it does not meet with your satisfaction please let me know and summarily delete it.Please refer to the ORDER.FRM file for information regarding Registration. This file may be distributed freely with a few restrictions : 1. Do not remove or alter the contents of any files contained within TIENWT.ZIP. 2. This program cannot be distributed by any publication (in any manner as a "Selling Point"),in any form of Shareware Collection (Cd-Rom,Disk etc.) or "Featured" upon any Pay/Profit service or system in a manner in which the operators would profit financially without the Authors EXPRESS permission.(Don't be confused.....just don't use this file as a means to benefit your own self.It is meant for the users enjoyment.) 3. Do not upload this file to the America Online service without my EXPRESS PERMISSION!I have left the AOL service due to a very long standing dispute over what I feel has been "very lacking customer service".I again apologize to the loyal users on AOL that enjoyed my work but I am afraid that you will have to look elsewhere for it now. This might be taken as petty on my part but I am very insulted by what took place and will not be treated in that manner again. 4. Do not sell or distribute this file for any monetary transaction. If after a week you are still enjoying this product and have not Registered it ......well then you are just a Bad Bad Bad User. That's about as much power as I have over it.You are basically breaking the law, violating my copyright and are.....well like I said.....a Bad Bad BAD user. It's up to you to support us Software Authors, especially Shareware. We seem to be a dying breed. Enjoy Network....... ├──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤ THE TRAINER : What is a Trainer? It's an Interactive Utility that "Hides" in memory and allows you to get the "Upper Hand" in those often too-Tough Games. It may even,in some cases, make the game more challenging for you "True" gameplayers. In either case it is my hope to enhance the Enjoyment of playing these games through the use of my utilities. The Trainer (Either Loader-TSR or TSR) loads itself into memory and interfaces itself into the Game Code.Once the game is running you can access the Trainer via "Hot-Key" Trainer Functions that will alter the Game Data/Code in memory as it is running. These functions allow you to alter the "Rules" of the game to ,hopefully, allow you to enjoy it even more. ├──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤ HOW TO : (TRAINER) Once you have your copy of the Trainer on your hard drive use PKUNZIP (see PKUNZIP docs for more information on using this utility) to UNZIP the trainer files into your \TIE game directory (or whatever you have named your TIE game directory).Make sure you have the Trainer files in the TIE game directory. If you attempt to run the Trainer from anywhere EXCEPT the TIE game directory then you will get an error message. Once you have the Trainer files in the TIE game directory I suggest reading through all of the .NFO files contained within the Trainer .ZIP.This will give you a better understanding of what the various functions do and how to use them properly. Each time you want to use the Trainer with the game simply type TIENWT and the Trainer will load and then load the game automatically for you. During the game use the following Key Combinations to your advantage : ACCENT (`) - Press this key to bring up the Trainer Hot Screen. This screen will display all of the available Trainer Keys along with all the Trainer Toggle Keys and their status (ON is HIGHLIGHTED/OFF is not ).With the UP and DOWN arrow keys you can select any of the Toggle functions to turn ON or OFF from this screen.Simply press RETURN to select one of the Toggle functions. You cannot select any of the STATIC Trainer functions from this menu. These are represented here just for a quick reference. INSERT - Each time you press this key all of your Weapons will be Restored or Maximized.Laser/Ion Cannons will be restored to Maximum Power Levels and the various types of Missles/Torpedoes/Bombs will be Maximized to 99 (your display will just show 9 at a time). HOME - Each time you press this key your Shield levels will be set back to the Maximum for your Ship Type and any Hull Damage inflicted will get set back to zero (100% Hull). PGUP - (Targeting Trainer Must be ON!) When you press this key your Current Target will be Protected from any Damage by any Attack. You may notice the Hull go to 87% and the Shields level vary, but just ignore these. The Trainer will Protect the Targets you choose.Trust in the Dark Side of the Force. PGDN - (Targeting Trainer Must be ON!) When you press this key your Current Target will be Crippled with Damage. It will be Damaged enough so that just One Shot should be enough to Destroy the Current Target no matter what its size! The Dark Side of the Force has many advantages doesn't it? F - By pressing this key you will have All of your On-Board Systems Repaired Instantly.Use this key as often as needed to defend your ship in the name of the Empire. SHIFT+F1 - When you press this key combination you will be activating the Unlimited Invunerable Mode. While this mode is On your ship will act as if you had selected the Invunerable Toggle from the Game but without any penalties.Your ship will not be affected by any sly Rebel Attacks nor by any type of Ship Collision.Press this key once again to turn this function Off. SHIFT+F2 - When you press this key combo you will be turning On the Unlimited Weapons Mode. While this mode is On none of your Weapon Systems will decrease in Strength nor Number.Again this key has the same effects that the In-Game Unlimited Weapons function has but with none of the penalties.Press this key again to return your Weapons to normal operation. SHIFT+F3 - Press this key combo once to turn ON the Unlimited Player vs Spacecraft Damage Mode. This mode does the same thing that the In-Game Player vs Spacecraft Damage does without any game penalties.Press this key again to turn this Off. SHIFT+F4 - Press this key combo to turn On the Unlimited Timer Mode. When this mode is On the game Timer in the Maze will not decrease.Press this key again to turn this function Off.It is not recommended to use this function in the Space Combat or Battle portion of the game as the Game Timer counts Upwards in terms of Time Spent in the Mission. The only advantage for Unlimited Time is gained in the Maze Simulator.Press this key again to turn this Off. END - Press this key to turn On the Instant Target Lock Mode. While this mode is On your will be able to Instantly lock onto your Current Target no matter what its location, distance or orientation to you in Outer Space is.Now you can launch any Missle/Bomb/Torpedo at the Current Target as soon as it appears with this latest Imperial Technological Leap (all thanks to the Dark Side of the Force of course!) over the Simple Minded Rebel Fools. Please note that while you can Instant Lock a Target you are still limited to the design specs of the Projectile Weapons (rumor has it though that Darth Vadar's personal Tie is testing new Unlimited Design Spec Weaponary.....?).Press this key once more to return your Target System to normal (perhaps to toy with your Doomed Rebel prey some more?) J - Press this key to turn On the Jump to Warp Speed Mode. This function will enable you to briefly jump to Hyperspace Escape Velocity (HEV) without actually entering Hyperspace.Your Current Speed will begin to rapidly drop back to whatever your Current Throttle Setting is.This can be used for quick bursts of speed to leap frog across sections of space. When you press this key again your engines will perform a jump to HEV in Reverse, thereby dropping your Current Speed back to zero. From there your Speed will increase back to whatever the current Throttle Setting is. TAB - You have been granted Special Permission to use this Secret Rebel Weapon System, stolen recently from a captured Xwing Fighter,by order of the Imperial Council.Press this key once to Activate the Targeting Trainer System. While this function is On you will have direct control over your Current Target.By using the PGUP and PGDN keys (see detailed instructions above) you will be able to Protect or Damage your Targets.May the Dark Side be with you!Press this key once more to return your Operations to normal. N - Press this key once to Activate the Instant Target Identification Mode. While this function is On you will be able to Instantly Identify Any Target in space as soon as it appears. No more will you have to lumber up to Targets at near point blank to get a positive ID.This functions uses the latest Imperial Long Range Scanner Identification System (ILRSIS) to make 100% positive Target ID's.Press this key again to turn Off the ILRSIS. ├──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤ NOTES : At present the Trainer Hot Screen (ACCENT Key) requires that you have 12k of space free on your Hard Drive in the directory that the game is located. This is used for a Temporary swap file to save the game screen. You should never notice this since the Trainer deletes this file before it exits to DOS.If for some reason you do not exit the game normally (I.e. turn off power, hit CTRL- ALT-DEL etc. etc.) the swap file will still be on the HD.It's name is NWT.XXX and you may delete or just let the Trainer do it for you the next time you play. A small note on the PopUpHotScreen : It appears that in some cases (and it happens from time to time in Tie Fighter) by spending prolonged periods in the PopUpScreen or repeatedly popping back and forth to it the Game's Music dies out.If this happens you can just pop into any other Game menu and back and the music will pick up again.I am not sure why this happens myself to be very honest with you but it may have something to do with how the music score is refreshed via Int8h (which I purposely leave alone when the PopUpScreen is used so you CAN hear the Music). This also may be something to do with just the SoundBlasterPro.I am unfamiliar with music programming especially that info concerning the DMA so bear with me till I do some homework to fix this minor bug. I'm sorry the Trainer Function keys may be a bit scattered round. The game uses nearly every available key. Also I have combined features into most functions in order to save space. One bug that I have experienced (and it seems to vary from system to system) occurs after pressing the SHIFT+Function key combination. Sometimes the Shift Key can get stuck (rather the Game's I/O think's it is depressed). When this occurs all of the Game Keys and Trainer keys will act as if they were SHIFT+.This causes misread Scan Key values.Basically if you are playing and after using a SHIFT+ Function you notice the keys don't seem to respond properly, just tap SHIFT agin to unlock it. The main portion of the game that need the Trainer for (or maybe you are just an incredible Dark Jedi perhaps?) is the Space Combat section where you are doing the actual fun bits of flying round in your Imperial Craft squashing the Puny Rebel Scum.Well....unfortunatly this bit of code is an overlay contained in FLIGHT.OVL.This means that the game code gets loaded into memory (and Out of memory) as needed by the game to make room for the other parts of the game. Normally any changes the Trainer would make to FLIGHT.OVL code would be wiped out when the overlay code was removed from meory and the fresh game code was loaded right from the game files on your hard disk. Well I said normally....Network Trainers has taken the care to install a handy (evil) little monitor in the front end of the code prior to FLIGHT.OVL being loaded. Each time you jump into FLIGHT.OVL it checks every trainer function to see what is active or not and makes changes to FLIGHT.OVL code as it loads itself into memory. This way any function you had ON (or OFF) will be restored to whatever its Trainer state was the last time you were in FLIGHT.OVL (except ...of course for the First time you enter Space). The Exception to this monitoring routine is the J function (Jump to Warp Speed Mode). This function is Always reset to Off upon entering the FLIGHT.OVL portion (Space Combat) to prevent Rookie Imperial Pilots from flying straight into friendly ships.(Unless of course you are a Kamikaze Rebel Spy?) And a final Note concerns the Instant Target Lock Mode : Be VERY careful when using this Trainer Function. It is very easy to mistakenly fire at a friendly Imperial Ship. The Target Lock doesn't distinguish what you are locking on to Instantly so use caution (or go a shooting spree.....) ├──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤ OTHER TRAINER FUNCTIONS : To manipulate the Keybeep the PC Speaker makes on Trainer Functions : F11 - Press F11 for a Higher pitched keypress feedback. F12 - Press F12 for a Lower pitched keypress feedback. DEL - Toggle ON/OFF the keypress feedback from the PC Speaker. Press these keys any time or as many times as needed to get the desired effect. Also note that for Trainer functions that Toggle ON/OFF the ON keypress will always be a LOW pitch then a HIGHER pitched tone and the OFF will be the reverse (a HIGH pitched tone with and immediate LOWER pitched tone). ├──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤ WRAP UP : If you have any problems with the Trainer PLEASE read the ERROR.NFO file for more instructions.Send Questions/Comments to : Prodigy ID#BGRB28C Compuserve ID#71052,1742 Internet Mail to : [email protected] I am no longer a member of the America Online Service (as mentioned above).I spent nearly one year attempting one simple thing : to get my files online without them being lost, deleted (or at least my being contacted for the reasons why),and to have them appear online before the game that it was written for got to the bargain bin.America Online let my complaints fall upon ears that promised changes but delivered even more problems. Now AOL has a software author that enjoys many thousands of downloads of his work advertising how poor he found their service. AOL users may contact me by sending mail via the INTERNET to my address above on Compuserve.I will galdly respond to all request and problems from my loyal AOL users.I am again very sorry for this unfortunate situation. Please remeber again that this work is Shareware and to obey the guidelines in the beginning of this file regarding Registration and Distribution. Please do not abuse the laws regarding Software Piracy and Copyrights (the two things that you would be doing by being a Bad Bad BAD user and using this program past one week without Registering it or by breaking any of the Distribution Guidelines). Also......Thanks to everyone who has supported me over the past year or so.You are the reason I am still able to do this. ├──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤ ▄███████▌▄██▌██▌▄███████▌██▌▄██▌████████▌▄██▌████▌▄██▌ ███▌ ████████▌███▌██▌████████▌██▌███▌▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀ ███▌████▌███▌ ███▌ ███▌▀▀▀▀ ███ ▀▀ ▀███▌▄▄▄ ███ ██████▌ ▀▀▀ ███▌███▌ ▀▀▀ ███▌ ███▌███ ██▌ ███▌███ ▄▄ ███ ████████▌███▌▄▄▄▄ ███▌███▌ ███▌ ███▌███ ███▌███ ██▌███ ███ ███▌███▌████▌███▌████▌ ▀▀▀ ███▌███████▌███▌███ ██▌▀▀▀ ███ ██▌███▌ ███▌▀▀▀ ███▌ ███▌ ███▌███████▌███▌██████ ███ ████████▌███▌ ███▌███▌ ███▌ ▀▀▀▀ ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀ ▀▀▀ ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀ ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀ ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀ ▀▀▀▀ Trainer Engine Design and Code (c) 1993 by David Jury Trainer Module Code (c) 1994 David Jury Tie Fighter and all Star Wars References are the property, copyrights etc. of the brilliant people at LucasArts who brought this game to life.
