ESC to navigate back or exit
are often used to navigate menus

Emulation too slow?
Set the emulator to use maximum CPU speed

Emulation too fast?
Set the emulator to use the 8086 CPU configuration

Experiencing graphic or animation glitches?
Set the emulator to use VGA only graphics configuration

Need to turn off the audio?
Disable sound card support

Have no audio?
  1. Try SoundBlaster 1.0 hardware
  2. Try Covox Sound Master hardware
  3. The song or audio file maybe missing from the program
  4. Audio may not be supported
Unlike other systems of the era, audio for DOS was unfortunately complicated for both programmers and end users alike. A lot of early scene software didn't bother including it. While those that did often didn't test it on all the hardware they supposedly supported.

DOSee pronounced dos/see, is our emulator used to run MS-DOS based software in your web browser.

MS-DOS (Microsoft DOS) was the primary operating system used by PCs during the 1980s to the early 1990s and is the precursor to Microsoft Windows.

DOSee is a slimmed down, modified port of The Emularity.

The Emularity is a multi-platform JavaScript emulator that supports the running of software for legacy computer platforms in a web browser. It is the same platform that's running emulation on the Internet Archive.

EM-DOSBox is a discontinued, high-performance JavaScript port of DOSBox that is applied by The Emularity for its emulation of the MS-DOS platform.

DOSee uses BrowserFS ZipFS and ZipFS Extras to simulate zip file archives as hard disks within EM-DOSBox.

DOSBox is the most popular MS-DOS emulator in use today and is frequently used by commercial game publishers to run games from their back-catalogues on modern computers.

Answer : A LUPUS Courier is the life blood of our humble group. In order to consider being a courier you must be dedicated, responsible, and be willing to make the effort it takes to be a GOOD courier. As a LUPUS Couier, your actions are a direct reflection on the group itslef, so poor contact or attitude cannot be tolerated. Other than that the only thing we ask is that you have a high interest in the underground art scene. We don't want couriers who are only interested in getting a leech account on a really cool board. We don't require previous experience because we feel that with a little effort anyone can be a great LUPUS Courier. One thing that I think is important to point out here is that if you are a courier, then you must stay at least to six months that you are obligated to if you accept fundage from a site. In other words, just make sure that a month down the road you won't have to tell your site that mom said that you had to get rid of your phone line. I understand that sometimes things happen that can't be foreseen. If sure a circumstance occurs, then you should work someting out with the SS and another courier to take your route. Overall, just make sure that you keep good contact with us. Question: What does a LUPUS Courier do? Answer : As a LUPUS courier you must move the LUPUS supported packs from the HQ to your site(s). Question: How much time and money will LUPUS take a month? Answer : I'll break it down for two sites at 14ooo at $.12 a minute: Pick up packs off the HQ 3MB 30 Minutes $3.60 (Assuming 6 groups with monthly packs that are less than 0.5MB each.) Call and drop off packs on 6MB 60 Minutes $7.20 two sites. Totals 9MB 90 Minutes $10.80 This is a very rough estimate. This does not include new logon time, calling back several times, and things such as this. But I feel a good courier can do his job very nicely in under 2 hours a month. And remember, this is LD time... if you have a local site then it will be condiderably cheaper. Question: I presently coury for another group. Is that a problem? Answer : As long as you can handle the calls and responsibilities of LUPUS, it's fine with me. In fact that just helps us keep in touch wit other groups easier. Question: Not to be greedy, but what do *I* get out of courying for LUPUS? Answer : Well, we realize that you are spending your time and money for this group. We sure hope that you won't feel unrewarded. The biggest thing we hope you get though is personal satisfaction that you are helping the art scene grow. Second, you should receive leech access on your sites. Please use this wisely. Also, all of us here at LUPUS give you our support. If you need help getting on a board or whatever we can probally help in one way or another. Another point is if you are a sysop yourself, just think, you'll get all the packs before most other boards around. Finally, and the one that you're waiting to hear, we hope you will receive some monetary help from your sites. The ammount will be worked out prior to you taking the site so just make sure you ask. We understand how expensive this stuff can get. Anything else you wantor need, just ask.. Question: Do you care if I phreak? Answer : This is strickly your business. I'm not gonna tell you what you can and can't do when it comes to your LD phone bill. I also don't require that you tell us, but it would be appreciated for information purposes. Question: How soon after the packet is released should I have it on my site? Answer : No more than 4 days. The group should have it on the HQ on its first or second day of release, and if you are keeping up with the release dates you should be able to have it on your site within a day or two max after that. Question: What if I'm not going to be able to do all my work for the month? Answer : Well, first, make sure this is a one time thing and not something that is going to be happening all the time. We understand that sometimes things come up, but if they keep coming up, do the mature thing and admit that you've takin on more than you can handle. However if you just can't make it this month, then the first thing you need to do is try to find someone to cover for you. You also need to let us know in such a case. If you can't find someone to cover your route then you need to contact a Senior Staff member so that one of us can cover it for you. Please note that we are already over worked and don't have time to do this all the time, but we understand that sometimes things come up.... Question: One of my sites has a NUP, a PCR, or a ratio that I didn't know about. What do I do? Answer : E-Mail the sysop and remind him that you are his LUPUS courier and remind him politely that you are not supposed to have a PCR or a Ratio. If you can't get past it (or the NUP) this way contact a SS to take care of the problem. You are not expected to call back until we inform you that the problem has been resolved. No need to waste your money or time. Groups ────── Question: If I wanted my group to become a LUPUS affiliate, what would be required? Answer : Not much. You simply need to assign a dedicated courier to the LUPUS WHQ on its first day of release. The faster you get it to us, the faster we can have it spread and the better you look. We will assign a group coordinator to you to keep up with your group news and release dates. We also ask that either the HQ or an important site picks up Elusive Net so that we may all stay informed of eachother's plans and successes. Question: What does LUPUS get out of spreading our pack? Answer : Nothing really. We get the enjoyment of helping the art scene spread and grow. The only other thing that you may consider a bonus, is that with the groups permission a line that says something to the effect of, "Couried by LUPUS" is added to the FILE_ID.DIZ. Also each pack will have a *SMALL* LUPUS info file added. That's about it for us.... Question: What do WE get out of having LUPUS spread our pack? Answer : Simple, you get free speading of your packs to a larger audience. Question: If a LUPUS Site is getting our packs sooner than most other boards, we don't have to consider it one of our dist sites do we???? Answer : Of course not. It's just a system that happens to get your pack very quickly. If you decide to make it a dist site that's your decision; however that would be one less site YOU have to coury to. Sites ───── Question: Why do I want to be a LUPUS Site? Answer : If you are serious about running a top qualityart based board, then LUPUS can help trememndously. LUPUS is based on the principles of delivering new art packs of multiple groups quickly. LUPUS saves you the LD phone bills of having to call and look for packs. Plus you may not always know where to look, but we do. Question: What kind of access should my courier have as a LUPUS Site? Answer : We highly suggest that you give them a leech account. They do a lot of hard work and spend a lot of money to get your files to you on time. Plus they should be u/ling enough so that they won't have to worry about a ratio. How much time you give them is up to you however, but please be generous. If your courier is abusive with his access then leave them e-mail about it. If it persists, then contact a LUPUS Senior Staff member. Also if you have a NUP then make sure you include that in yuor board info. And finally, if you have a PCR, make sure you eximpt your courier from it. Question: How long after a packet is released should it be on my board? Answer : Hopefully four days MAX. Please remeber however that problems do happen, so please be understanding. If you have a problem with late files contact a SS or e-mail your courier. Question: Okay, let's get to it. How much does this service cost me? Answer : This is a toughy. Prices will varry depending on who you are. For example, I probally wouldn't ask FusioN to pay anything, but most places will be expected to donate to our cause. If you read the courier questions previosly, then you understand that at a minimum of about $6-7 a month for your site. That's a lot of money for most of us. I will probally varry these prices ESPECIALLY WHEN MORE GROUPS ARE ADDED, but for now a charge of $40 for six months is being asked for your courier. That's about $6.00 a month. As you can see we're not making anything on this. Don't freak when you read this. Talk to us about it and we'll see if we can work something out with you and your courrier. If you simply know you cannot pay this then go ahead and talk to us anyway and we'll see what can be arranged. Another point which I think is important to remember is that if you pay us, you are guareenteed service for sixth months. Reguardless of internal problems such as your courier leaving or whatever, you will still receive your packs. Question: What should I do if my courier stopped coming? Answer : Contact us on the HQ and we'll get it straight. If you paid then you will have a courier definitely, even if I have to do it myself. Just make sure you let us know if you have a problem because LUPUS doesn't make a habbit of checking up on our couriers. Question: How do I find out who my courier is? Answer : Well, you'll know which user of yours is your courier, but if not then hopefully these info packs will keep you up to date of any changes. Misc. ───── Question: Gee Jester, from what I see you get a pretty good deal getting all these groups to deliver their packs upon release to your doorstep and all. Why do you get such a great deal? Answer : It's great I admit, but think of all the work I have to do. The other SS and I are responsible for making sure all the sites are lined up along with the couriers and groups. I'm workin my butt off here. Plus I have to cover a courier's route if he can't make it for some reason. For any other questions, just contact a LUPUS Member.... Jester [LUPUS SS]
