Unprotect for Spy Hunter (a game on the IBM PC). From: The Ross DOS 5-26-86 Spy Hunter is one of those annoying programs that has to be booted from the original diskette to use. Yet, it is such a good game that I felt that a little effort on my part was in need. Using this unprotect, you too can have a broken Spy Hunter game; this allows you to make archive backups and even store it on your hard disk. The protection method is outlined below: -it has to be booted from the original disk -the boot sector -checks for a unreadable track # 1 -checks your system for enough memory and color adapter -loads the game from track #2 to track #30 -once the game is loaded -the CS is at 100:1000 -the DS and ES is at 200:0000 -the SS is at 1E00 -the SP is at 1FF0 -the execution starts at 100:1000 I used Symbolic Debug to get the program off the disk and into a file. I saved this procedure in the file SPYHUNT.SD. If you don't have Symbolic Debug, then just use debug and modify it a bit. By tracing through the boot sector program, I found that the file I made could be directly loaded into memory. I then wrote an assembly program to load the game and run it. This file is SPYHUNT.EXE. Briefly, you simply have to go through the files SPYHUNT.SD and run SPYHUNT.EXE to run it. Addition files: SPYHUNT.ASM - source for SPYHUNT.EXE
