THE ASYLUM BBS AD ======================== Rex Deathstar is proud to present yet another intro AD... Few weeks has passed since my last intro AD, which was done for the I-Chi-Ban BBS...some people has told me that the smoke routine used in that intro was taken from a program called 'fire' which is quite true...I did adopt the technique from 'fire' just that I made some modification, jammed in 386 instructions to boost the perfomance, becoz the original routine could only update 8kb per frame (80x50*2), but in order to simulate a wall of smoke, a 300*50*2=30kb per frame update is neccesary...anyway, enough of that crap... THE ASYLUM AD may not be the most original intro around, as the starfield and 3D vectors has appeared in many, if not all other demos from other demo groups, but I'm proud to say that all the routines has been created from scratch by myself. And you must have noticed the way the text is presented, if you have been going thru the demos before 1992, you will know that this particle system text morphing is used by Future Crew's FISHTRO and THEPARTY intros... And the font I used is extracted from a font editing package called FONTEDIT 1.0, and it's MERP.FNT. If you happen to have this font package, you can copy the font files to REX.FNT and viola! You have a new font is the intro! But be forewarned, some fonts in the package DOES NOT work, for some mysterious reasons... BTW, this intro is made initially in Borland C, and when the overall feel has been achieved, I hand-converted it to 100% assembly and optimized it to run at 60-70 frames per second (depending on your VGA) on a 486DX-33. Since I don't have a 386 machine, I do not know how it runs on a 386, but I think it should run fine (50+ fps) after all the optimisations done! Well, that's about all I can say on this little intro... hope you enjoy it! ---------------------------------------------- Intros I have released so far...: RAGEFIRE.ZIP (a replica of fire, adapted from 'fire', 386+ only) REXINTRO.ZIP (Introduces myself, Rex Deathstar, as a new graphics coder in the scene...386+ only, uses VangelisTracker and supports SB,SBPro) BTW, ShellVT is real slow! ICHIBAN.ZIP (My first BBS AD intro, used to the routine in RAGEFIRE, but used purple smoke palette, 386+ only) ASYLUM.ZIP (This is what you looking at now...) My next BBS intro will be for ANARCHY ONLINE BBS, watch for it! Will feature a simulated TRUECOLOR double static plasma in 360x480 MODE-X, and of course, a MOD player!
